Voltage - Room Mean Square is an average voltage of a varying voltage waveform. Ok, this is a loose definition, but it gets the idea across.

PWM stands for pulse width modulation....and basically means that the voltage varies over time in a cyclic waveform. VRMS is just a way to measure that constantly changing voltage as an average effective dc voltage.

edit. Saw beat me to it....and probably said it better!

ps. Bham...remember, there WILL be a test!

I could pm you the answer... but i'm pretty sure the way those two summed it up is way better. The description I have is enough to make your head explode with math and formulas.

Thankfully someone beat a bunch of people to the game and has made a scope/meter specifically for Ecigs... I have one and am in the process of having its calibration checked for accuracy.

actually no Morandir sir... I am forwarding him the description of Root Mean Square. or this Root mean square - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You are going to want to focus on the equation for pulse train part. This is how our PWM devices work... they send a voltage peak and then low pending on the fequencey and duty cycle of the peaks is where your numbers come into play.

Yes I did get an Ecd meter with a few others on this last shipment... currently getting it looked at to check accuracy against an oscilloscope. Why not use a tool that is easier and plug and play if it is just as accurate??

p.s. Bham that link was exactly what I was going to send you... so no pm now:p

You see yes I recently heard about the ecd meter which is why i asked you about it, but pwm and vrms are not new to me... my father has been working as an electrical engineer for most of his life. At Innovex his previous job he worked with lasers. Being the fun son who always wanted to go visit him at work... I gathered a good understanding about the control units and some of the programming it took to run the lasers that he worked on. PWM was discussed more than a few times... it only took till recently for me to really start understanding what it all meant. Also fun fact of PWM your vehicles injectors use the technology too ;)

So don't assume I am chasing one small part of this world.... I am doing more to better understand what it is we are actually using

Simple reason Whistles sir, it's not accurate compared to the oscilloscope, at least the one I have isn't. It got a lot of play on ecf from a certain individual, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. Just like with the standard in-line voltage meters there are flaws to it. Anything that is running off the power of the ecig itself will give you a false reading. Will end it at that.
