Love my RN4062 e-cigar (inspection date May 2009) but it did something strange today. Felt in my pocket and my e-cigar was red hot. Seems it either switched on by itself or never switched off. Partially melted the cartridge. Nasty burnt plastic smell.

Luckily I caught it in time, I had also seen this problem in a different thread which I searched for and couldn't find.

Quickly took out the battery and 1/8th melted cartridge let it cool down and reinserted new cartridge and battery and it's functioning normally.

I've noticed that the batteries have thin coating of eliquid I'm thinking the body got dirty and the grease did something to the reset switch so the solution is to clean out the body with 92% Isopropyl alcohol.

No I don't drip on the atty but I do fill to the top.

Anyone have any suggestions to keep this from happening in future.

I had a similar problem with my 801 when I was a newb, battery was running for no reason. Well, over time, it reduced my atomizer lifespan to about a week and the battery no longer works. Ive had better luck with all my e-cig supplies since so far, it appears to be an isolated incident (I hope, and I probably jinxed myself there 8-o). Its not the same model, but it could be the same or similar problem.
Id recommend if you use the same battery, keep an eye on it and unattach it if it activates w/out reason. Then id consider the battery defective.
