So, like everyone else, I have my preferred juice (extremely complex DIY with all NET flavors) and my preferred all day driver (Subtank Nano and an Ego One 1100 mah battery). It's performed GREAT. I use prebuilt OCC coils and I rebuild those coils, too. Most of the time, they work just like they do with any other rig... they hiss (like all atomizers) and pop and crackle... part of the nature of sub ohm vaping (I use the 0.5 ohm heads, btw).

Once in a while, the stars align and the vaping gods smile down, and NO popping. I have to actually fire the device for a while to make sure it works. The telltale hiss is there, just no popping. It's happened with prebuilt coils and coils that I've rebuilt. Not sure what the deal is, but the vape is SOOOOO much better.... flavor seems improved too, but it might be mental.

Whatever the case, thank you, vaping gods, stars, fates, or whatever. That occasional perfect coil is nice.

That's so funny...today at work I was puffing on my Atlantis and had that exact scenario happen to me. Same thought process and everything hit me. After that hit, the coil was done. Like completely done. I think it was it's way of saying good bye haha.

I only have this happen with new coils (or freshly rebuilt and rewicked ones) and only once in a great while. When it happens, the coil vapes like a dream for several days, then works like normal for the rest of its normal life expectency. Doesn't happen with the RBA section in my Mini or Plus Subtanks, though. Weird... but nice. Never had it happen with àny other kind of tank either (and I have tons).

If rebuilding the OCC coils use 3 mm diameter and a wick of 12-15mm wide. It will be tight going through the coil head and coil.
Cut it off about 2mm from the outside of the coil head and gently tuck it in , where there is no cotton touching the outside of the coil head.
I do 5.5 wraps slightly spaced. Coil should be as wide as the top opening of the coil head , can be a bit wider but not to where it would be touching the inside of the coil head.
Should be a slight bulge of cotton from the ends of the coils to the inside edge of the coil head and all should be straight.
Ive had great success.
Don't forget to put liquid on the cotton through the top and some on each hole on the sides before firing.

I'm working with drippers, so my experience only loosely translates, but all of my builds these days are between .55-.6 ohms, and if I get any popping or crackling, to me that's a sign that my wick isn't right. Usually, it means there's not enough wick in the coil, although it can also mean the airflow isn't sufficiently aimed at the heat to keep temps from getting too high.

Should have mentioned I use KGD and I peel off the outer layers. Gently trying to leave as much cotton behind as I can
Then I cut it around 12 -15mm. Well one time was 15mm and it was good , current one I eyeballed and cut and was 12mm and still good.

It's the main reason I like using KGD so much. Once you get the idea of cutting the right amount, perfect wicks can be achieved every time.

I've had that perfect vape...usually after putting in new wicks. Same thing when smoking a pipe and getting that perfect bowl or that rare perfect pack. No rhyme or reason as to why they would be better than any others but when the groove hits its just sooo good.

Yep. I've had great success with rebuilding the Kanger OCC heads for the Subtanks. They always perform at least as well as the stock heads, but I get lazy once in a while and just use a prebuilt. It's a nice surprise to get that perfect vape from either my rebuilt or the prebuilt coils. And it lasts for several days until the coils build up a little gunk. Awesome vape experience. I get it about once out of three coils. And call me crazy, but the air flow seems smoother and less restrictive, too. That also may be a mental thing, though.

I used to get that "perfect vape" on my Protank-2. Smooth draw, good flavor, nice full cloud. My build consistency is for crap though, so it's not very often. Now, though, since I've been using a Plume Veil exclusively for a few weeks, it's quite a different experience. The flavor (of the same juice) is quite different sub-ohming, the clouds are a completely different category, and the potential for leaking is astronomical. But I can still get a good puff once in awhile.

You know what, I'm going to stick my neck on the line here, I've been vaping many years, had many mods, builds ect and for me my Subtank Nano gives me a perfect vape like the OP describes almost everyday, I'm sure the incredible juice I use also helps (Isle of custard) but this past month has been the best trouble free vaping perfection I've had.

Wow... 13 days on this stock prebuilt OCC 0.5 coil, and it STILL vapes like a dream. No popping or crackling at all. Awesome, thick vapor and flavor, incredible air flow... just like day one. All I can hear is a low hiss as the juice sizzles. I wish all coils vaped like this. Normally after a week, my coils need rebuilding and rewicking because of my really dark and heavy VG NET liquid. I got the uber-coil from the Kanger factory, I suppose.

Every time I rebuild coils or coil heads, the first hit makes me realize how my last vape sucked; but it doesn't make me change coils any faster. I guess what's tolerable is good for me.
Keep in mind that most coils, especially organic cotton ones have a break in period, too. Usually 1 or 2 tanks. Then they vape at their peak. My uber coil is still going strong, btw. Crazy!
