hi guys i have been on this forum a lot lately!, havent taken great interest in vaping and even bought on (still waiting from PS)
here is the question, i understand that its an electronic device and nothing is perfect, but i seams that after getting one of those, the atomizer and the bat (less often) will need to be changed...
i was woundering is there a devices out there with a stronger build, i do not wish to have to change my atomizer every other week or so or a battery every month... one selling point of the ecig was that i will cut down the cost of the smoking habit.
however with btw 10 to 28 bucks a pop my saving wouldnt be that great (yeah i know it healthier too)
soooo is there a device where i would not have to change those part as often?
i have read trough all the different model pen,901,510 etc...
any suggestions?

If you want to use ecigs you have to understand that they are made up of consumible parts. There's simply no atomizer or proprietary ecig battery available, at least at this point in time, that's going to last forever, or even as long as a year.

That being said, however, you can find ways to economize, and you will find that using ecigs can be much less costly than buying cigarettes.

For example, buy atomizers in bulk, or directly from several reliable sources in China. For example, buy them from ruyandirect.com at $5 each. Even if they only lasted you a week, compare that to a pack a day habit. In my state, that's at least $50-$60 a week! But more likely you will get some that last a month or two, mixed in with those that die sooner.

And get yourself either a battery mod or a Screwdriver. Using non-proprietary batteries is the only way to go with ecigs IMO. For example, the kind of batteries used in the Screwdriver and many magnum style mods cost $6 or $7 for four, as compared to $15 or $20 for one of the proprietary ecig batteries. That's ridiculously less expensive!

And for liquid, well buy 36 mg liquid, and cut to your desired strength with really economical PG and/or glycerine. If you really want to save on liquid, again go bulk from the suppliers in China.

Much of this stuff is discussed, and plenty of links can be found, in the Modders and Tip and Tricks and DIY e-Liquid sub forums.

The screwdriver (SD) seems to be universally thought of as the most "durable" of the ecigs. THis is not a mass produced unit, but a "mod" hand produced on a small scale by and extremely innovative guy (trog).

It costs about $150 to get started with this unit (pluse atomizer and liquid). You should start with a less expensive unit to see if vaing will work for you first.

I just placed and order for a Black SD last night (got one of the few left). I anxiously await the arrival of this workhorse...

I would suggest a 901 to start (and you can use the atomizer with the SD if you get one.

sniffff....
i guess i will have to get a bunch of those atomizser for my 901...
it seams ridiculous that the atomizer isnt better build to last... hummm intentionally? lol
Hi lets all try to put into perspective, that the ecigs are produced in China, with very few, if any QC, they probably cost 8 cents to produce, if that much and we are expecting them to last forever. If you get a few short weeks out of them, be thrilled
,the Chinese (no shot at that remarkable country) have sent dog food to the USA that killed thousands of pets, so the controls on the ecigs may not be up to our wanting level

Just be prepared to go thru atomizers and batteries, it is part of the
'cycle of life'

yup, well in the UK a pack of 20 analogs is about 8 - 10 bucks. I have worked out even with all the failures (all so far covered by warranty and my supplier) that my packet of 20 has come down to about $2.

Plus of course the ease of smoking where I want, no health problems etc etc

When u 1st get one, you will mess it up, think things are bad faulty. I have 2 recovered atomisers that I thought were bad, but managed to clean and sort out because I was a newbie and didn't know what was doing.

You have to learn to smoke again. read the forums, get past that hurdle and you will never look back.

dude go for it.

If you can mass produce a coil pack that would last 6 months with all the cunk on it burning etc, I am all for it and ears.

More than happy to pay for it as well.

On average an atomizer by all accounts should last 2 - 6 months if cared for and not burnt regulary.

Atomizers: The way I see it, the atomizers are heating elements which are energized about 150-300 times per day. This is equivalent to 13,500 - 27,000 times in a 2-month timeframe. Your stove heating elements are energized 3 times a day, 1,095 times per year, 13,500 times in 12.3 years. Would you be upset if your one of the elements on your stove burnt out after 12 years? I know that a stove is energized for longer than an atomizer but, it is of a much more durable design since it doesn't have to also serve as a means for wicking liquid.

Batteries: e-cigs use Lithium Ion batteries. From what I have found, lithium ion batteries are good for about 300 charges. I have an M401 and I charge each battery (4 total) about once per day. I know that I will get less than 1 year from these batteries. Also, have you noticed how your cell phone batteries seem to not last very long as you approach the end of your 2-year contract. On average we charge our cell phones about what? Every 2 days? This adds up to about 300-350 charges. So our cell phone batteries, which are also Lithiom ion batteries, also last us the same number of charges. We don't mind replacing our phones every 2 years.

I have run the numbers, including replacement equipment cost (1yr bats, 1mo. atms, 3mL/day juice), and have found that: 2 packs analogues/day = $8.00/day ; cost of vaping = $2.71/day

I am now saving: $1,930.85 per year. Wow, it really hits home when you type it instead of just reading it on a spreadsheet.

Take into account that these are before the tobacco tax increase.

And if you dilute 36mg juice then your savings will be even higher.

Ya, I think vaping saves a little bit of money.:p

I can't edit my post so I need to make a correction:

I just realized that I based my calculations on a 3-month timeframe (not 2-month) average life-span for the atomizers, based on the projected 2-6 month lifespan previously mentioned.

hi Guys all the math sounds great and well thought out
I have atoms still working well after 3 months, maybe even more. I have batteries that last 2 days and some last 5 months, if I use passthrus, I could go forever
If you are looking to figure the cost of smoking ecigs compared to smoking analogs, it is a no brainer, numbers game

One life saved = ?

Yeah 4 pks, somethin. huh. yeah I know, as far as being dead, I have COPD, so I am close

after all the math and all the chatter, I AINT SMOKING ANALOGS ANYMORE

wow! thanks for the elaborate analysis...
i guess i am just upset that they couldnt engineer better atomizer for 10 bucks... in the end yea you dooo save mula but its just the fact that i have to order those and replace them....
in a perfect world i just wish i could have access to better longuer lasting atomizer...
2 month per atomizer would seams... kinda fair in guess.... i better get some 2 or + month atomizer lol
