I have some mixed feelings about Brick & Mortar vape supply vendors. Up til now, everything I have has been purchased online, except the cig-alikes that first got me into vaping and off the analogs. I have been wanting to visit an actual store for a really long time, after this week... I can no longer say that is the case. Let me explain by telling my most recent experience and purchase.

I had a Vamo on order and had not ordered batteries for it, partly as an excuse to visit the closest b&m location and pick up some additional supplies. Since my city doesn't yet have a location, (one coming soon, I'm told..) I had to drive 100 miles each way to visit a vape store. Not wanting to slam this company one bit, so no names will be mentioned, but here's what I learned and what happened during my visit.

1) the salesperson working the store was very new, and wasn't entirely sure of himself, or the products. I already knew what I needed before leaving home, which was good because this guy seemed confused about the two different sizes of batts I asked for. Ended up charging me $1.00 more per battery than the price on the store's website. 3 batteries for a total of $3 more than I should have spent. I didn't realize this until I got back home. Sure it's not that big of a deal, but not exactly encouraging me to patronize a B&M store again, or visit a new location when they open one up closer to me.

2) sales tax. Could have been avoided since I actually live in another state. Of course paying for shipping would have offset the savings, but I hate giving the government money I don't have to...

3). 200 miles of driving equals roughly a half a tank of gas. Ouch! Of course I knew this beforehand, but 3 1/2 hours of drive time and a fill-up had me regretting not just ordering my batts and other stuff online in the first place.

As it stands now, I'm not as excited to visit a vape store as I once was. Even without the long drive, the customer service was a complete disappointment and paying sales tax and this store's much higher juice prices than my online favorite juice vendor will probably keep me an internet only customer from now on.

The only upside I can see would be possibly meeting a few local vapers who might be shopping there at the same time as me, but as far as information and products goes....I have had much better luck furthering my hobby on the internet.

Just had to vent.... I'm sure the flamings are about to commence....so, go ahead and give it to me.

i like the idea of a local b&m... some friends have visited a bunch in the area and actually an old co-worker works at one of them in the area... i havent visited any yet but do plan to. my work schedule makes me basically nocturnal now.

if its convenient and a good establishment i am fully willing to pay a bit higher price for products... you pay for the convenience and im curious... when you calculated the price was the $3 more including shipping? even for the places i order from in state it costs at least $3 for shipping.

The online price for an 18650 batt is $11.99. Bought 2 of these. I was charged $12.99 each on my receipt. The online price for an 18490 batt is $8.99, I was charged $9.99. There were a few other items I bought as well and the tax on those made them more expensive than buying online. The $35 in gas was definitely more than the shipping.

There are 4 B&M vape stores within a 50 mile radius of me, which is awesome. Only one of them (the closest one, wouldn't you know) I won't be going back to, as the people who run it gave me the creeps, and they didn't have anything good anyway.
The other two that I've visited will definitely be seeing my smiling face again. The prices are comparable to online, the staff know their stuff, and their selection of juices is impressive.
For that reason I'm a huge proponent of brick & mortar stores.
I love being able to go in, try a whole bunch of juices, talk shop for a bit, and walk out with exactly what I wanted.
Everyone should be so lucky to have a good vape shop nearby!

Yes, I have only visited one dedicated Vape B&M shop, and I was very impressed with the customer service. I got to chit chat with lots of nice folks, try out a few different batteries from my twist, try a whole buunch of juices and walked out with exactly what I wanted. Prices were a tad bit higher, but it I like supporting a business when they cater to my needs.

On a slight tangent, B&M stores might actually help further the information about vaping to laypeople and present it in an even more legitimate way!

That isn't unusual for just about any product, especially with smaller shops.
Online prices are usually cheaper to counter that you have to pay for shipping

I've heard there are some smoke shops here carrying some vaping gear, however I have been way too busy to get out and visit them. Vaping here is still real new, so the more the merrier in my opinion.
I got a real kick out of visiting my neighborhood smoke shop to find them carrying "ciggalikes" It was fun talking with people in there I knew, and we had a good time talking about all the options out there.
However if I had walked in there and gotten that "skeezy" feeling, I would not go back, convenient or not.
Unfortunately I think some b&m retailers have the mistaken impression that since they are the only game in town, they will get your business.

On a kind of side note. Where I live "fishing season" is a real big deal. Meaning anyone during this time will get some strange illness that makes them too sick for work, however they are not too sick to drive a couple hundred miles to the fishing hole and hope they don't get "skunked" Of course I would never get skunked:blink: I always catch fish :p
Sorry you had such a bummer experience, I hope you have a better one in the future!

Shipping is usually cheaper than 6% sales tax. Especially if spending more than $50.

With B&M's though, you get it right away without the risk of it being lost since most online vendors only use USPS for shipping... You pay a bit more with B&M but if something is defective with what ever you bought, you can walk/drive it right back and the problem is resolved right away rather than waiting for an email and dealing with RMA...

I noticed that a few vendors that I've purchased a few things from only offer a 14 day warranty on date of purchase... What happens when the package arrives on the 14th day and there's a problem? It can go both ways really, depending on their customer service. If you have an .... company then they'll say your warranty has expired... I personally prefer to walk into a B&M to buy stuff since they can't avoid complaints since its face to face.

We started at a B&M and I'm happy with our purchase from them. The batteries were $3 more than you can find online, the CE4's we paid $6 each... ouch! 5x 10ml of juice for $35. Ouch again! lol. The overhead of a B&M is much higher than an online shop. But I'd like to see them remain open in the future, so I will continue to occasionally buy there... actually heading there today to grab a couple more batteries. :)

Oh, the girl in our store was very nice and helpful... but she did tell us that our batteries would develop a memory. They are 900MAH firefly batteries and from everything I've read online, that's incorrect.

You're not alone... while I like the idea of supporting local economy, when I go to a local B&M and feel like I'm educating them about various aspects of vaping, I don't see the point... I've had a much better experience (learning and price-wise) online (thanks ECF ;))

Very true... and there are the cases of instant need/gratification that a local B&M can provide better than online vendors.

There are a lot of people opening B&M stores in an attempt to capitalize on the growing popularity of "e-cigarettes" (I hate that term) unfortuntatly, many of these places are staffed by people who know next to zero about the vape community in general. I walked into a place recently that was selling an ego kit for $100, highway robbery! The staff knew nothing of vaping, e liquid or equipment....they were quite proud to tell me, their little disposable's are the equivalent of 20 cigarettes!

Luckily I have a well established online vendor less than an hour from my home, so the shipping only takes one day :)

I have the choice of a Madvape b&m, in Mooresville, NC, or of course their online store. The b&m is a little higher with prices but are the BEST when I need info. I definitely like the Madvape online store for convenience but I will pay the extra prices when I do need info. For example, I was heating up 1.5ohm cartos with my Twist and Spinner on 4.8v. I went to the b&m to see what is up and he let me try the 3.2ohm to see if I liked it, I did. It is my new go to carto. So I like both b&m AND online for Madvape who is my favorite store anyway with all supplies.

Walk-in is a little more like a convenience store in that you can hang out and try samples, taking up more time. If you compare shipping for online and consider the wait time for USPS, a dollar more per battery probably equals out in price and gives you the product immediately.

There's also more competition between online sellers for price, driving down profit. Consider that having a walk-in store costs more money per sale. Someone is getting paid to stand around and wait for you to come in.
