Alright so I'm new to the valing world, but have been looking at these forums for helpful insights. Just getting into it as a hobby basically and figured I was going to just dive right in with a Mech Mod and just wanted to get your opinions on my first set up, and if there are any safety concerns after seeing the stuff on mods, or should I say batteries blowing up in people's faces. So here is my current set up

Akuma V2 Mod clone (ordered from fasttech)
Tugboat V2 RDA clone (also fasttech)
EFest 2500mah 35a batteries with nicore charger (Amazon Purchase) 18650's

Now I've read people saying those batteries aren't really living up to their 35a discharge current don't know if there is truth in that or not.

I have dual coils, 8 wrap 24guage at .32ohms

My basic questions are such, I want to make sure I'm in the safe zone as far as the discharge current, which from what I've found, I'd be sitting at around 13-14 with a battery at 4.2v. if I assume the batteries are actually a 20a discharge current then I should still be safe but is that a good enough cushion? Also just a question for anyone that may own the Akuma V2 clone and how it does with venting. I'm a little paranoid with the possible chance of failure, even though I have been using it and seems to have no issues as of now. I just wanted to get some better opinions of people who have been doing this much longer then me and are more experienced. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to using this forum for any and all questions I may have.

Do the Ohm's law math...

For wattage ("Power") the formula is V² ÷ Ω = P.
For amperage ("Current"), the formula is V ÷ Ω = C.

I recommend an absolute minimum of 10% headroom to new mech users. Efest is not known for sharing the actual maximum continuous current discharge (MCCD) rating. Assuming the more likely 20a... you still have 34% headroom.

Hey LateNite.... Do take a gander at blogs from a user named Baditude. E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

He discusses batteries and safety and reputable sources for batteries. Also discusses Ohm's Law. Check out steam-engine.org for calculators and references about battery usage and coil building.

Glad you're asking - always test your builds before actually firing. I'm kind of a wimp, and I prefer regulated devices because there's a bit of extra protection (never 100% safe, but that's why knowledge is power!)

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

Everyone is free to set their own parameters (with regards to headroom), and I can only say what mine are.

I try to never exceed 50% of the CDR of a battery.
So with a 20A battery, that would be 10A. This Ohm's Law Calculator tells me that a .4 ohm build is as low as I would want to use.

The reason that I place a 50% limit is because as a battery ages the mAh of the battery degrades, as the mAh degrades, so does the batteries c rating (amp limit). So down the road, my 20A battery may only be a 10A battery.

Here is a blog post by Baditude (one of our battery/safety experts) on the purple Efest 35A battery.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

Thank you all for your quick responses so far. I will def be checking out all the info on the batteries again. I can understand your reasoning for the 50% Susan, sometimes it is better to be safe then sorry. I'm also very notorious for recharging whenever I get to about 3.5v. I know you don't want to overcharge or discharge completely so I try not to take it too low. Also thank you for the welcoming!!

1: If you're new I'd recommend against using a mech mod.
And if you do use a mech mod, I'd suggest using a kick.

2: If you're going to use an rda for the first time, again I'd recommend a regulated mod for your first few builds.

3: 24 gauge: again if you're new to building, 30 and 28 gauge are decent places to start.
use steam engine calculator

as far as batteries venting inside mods, on the mod side what you want are vent holes so that pressure does not build up inside the mod.

The thing is I've been smoking on ones similar to this for months now so going backwards wouldn't be enjoyable for me now. My one buddy who has been doing this for a couple years has been a good mentor and got me into this and had been with me every step of the way. I trust him but also just wanted some other opinions.

Oh, good.
