HB 682 would deceptively redefine “smoking” to include the use of e-cigarettes for the purpose of banning vaping in the same places where smoking is currently prohibited. This bill is scheduled for a hearing in the House Health Committee on Monday, June 15th, at 11:00 AM. Testimony at this hearing will be by invitation only.

In light of the fact that the committee will not be considering public comment at Monday’s hearing, please take this opportunity to email your Representatives NOW.

Oppose HB 682 - Send an Email

(Writing Tip #1) If you have a lot to say, please craft your email in a separate word doc and then copy/paste it into the field provided. If you take too long, they system will time out and you will lose your work.

(Writing Tip #2) Although we've provided a prewritten email with compelling talking points, we would strongly encourage you to edit the email because personalized communications to legislators are far more persuasive than form letters. At a minimum, PLEASE INSERT YOUR PERSONAL STORY (just a few sentences) in the text of your email.

Let address the real issue behind this-
It's not just indoor vaping. This is the insurance companies gaining legal precedence to back up their already poor ideology that vaping = smoking. They cite all "nicotine use" as equally as harmful, and for this reason I cannot afford the life insurance premiums they want to charge me as "a smoker".

I sent a letter and reworded it around the insurance issues as well as the indoor vaping. Reinforced every paragraph with "vaping does NOT equal smoking".

PA is a hell-hole of idiocy and bad roads.

I'll be testifying at Monday's PA House Health Cmte hearing (where I'll urge the committee to not ban vaping, and to amend the vaping ban provisions out of the bill).

HB 682 has virtually no chance of being enacted into law, has very little chance of being approved by the PA House, and probably won't even be approved by the House Health Cmte.

Kabooma's comment above is wrong, as HB 682 would have zero impact on either life or healthcare insurance premiums.

Insurance companies sure are taking advantage of the junk science, etc. Wouldn't surprise me if they are behind some of the push for dishonest legislation and over-reaching regulations. Anyway, insurance premium abuse is another important issue necessitating fighting back.

Bill, how do you view this "invitation only" testimony. To me, it sure looks like a new strategy developed by the ?non-profit?"health" associations to keep dissent at a minimum. I can envision you speaking the voice of We the People and a string of proponents drowning out your voice. Did Greg get invited?

I know the outcome won't impact the premiums directly. I was just pointing out that those premiums are already at maximum based on false ideology, and that if this bill DOES actually pass, that the insurance companies can then argue less than a degree of separation from law that smoking does equal vaping. You honestly think they wouldn't use such a convenient law to make their case?

My point is that there is far more on the line. I do appreciate you testifying at the hearing.

The groups that are pushing HB 682 are the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association and American Heart Association.

Please keep this thread on topic.
In other words, it's the biggest ANTZ organizations, who make their living lying about vapor products and slandering vapers as "addicts", who are pushing this piece of anti-vaping garbage. Their BP-filled coffers must be running dry.
