a few days ago my friend saw my build (just a basic dual macro) and he said that my leads should be opposite from one another on the positive post (one coming from under, one over) and i fail to see why.

is this true, and if so, why?
I'm not 100% sure I understand what you mean so it would be great if you could post a picture. However, if I do understand you correctly, it shouldn't matter.

I mount coils so they fit where I want them and move the way I want them to move when I tighten the screws. Sometimes that mean the coils may be mounted Opposed, like you say. My interpretion would require winding the coils in opposite directions. to get an over under.

Mount the coils the way that works for you. IF it's working it's correct.

the battery on my phone is trashed so, no pictures of my build but here is an example of both leads coming from underneath on the positive post (same situation)

Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about.
Your wire isn't going to hit welding temperature, least of all within the positive post.
You don't need to have your coils wound in opposite directions. I usually have the low leg on the positive post, wicking fits better.

Positive leg on the bottom. This is how I've always built dual coils. The positive legs aren't going to weld together, and current "backflow" isn't even a thing. Your friend is full of s***

It's easy to do. Just wrap one coil clockwise and a 2nd coil counterclockwise. It's an OCD preference is all.

Whether I put from under or over depends on the lineup; I do like 93gc says; I wrap and mount the coil so that it lines up smoothly.
For example, normally I would wrap coils clockwise, but for my 3d rda I wrap anticlockwise so that the coil ends up oriented the way I want it, with leg wire wrapping clockwise around the screws, 'over' leg goes to the positive post which is higher than the negative post, and the coil ends up centered.
