Hi WCoyote,
I'm a tank user of the Ego-T type, and I found that to begin with I had a lot of trouble with atomisers getting flooded and leaks etc.
Three things sorted me out.
Firstly, make sure that the cap of the tank is one of the soft rubber or silicon types.. they leak MUCH less frequently than the hard caps. Also, keep an eye on the hole in the cap, it tends to get bigger the more often you pull the tank on and off of the atomiser. Sometimes you need to replace it.
Secondly, vape technique! Long, slow vapes will make an atomiser flood far less frequently. The thing is, if you try and take short , deep puffs, the liquid is pulled into the atomiser via the suction and doesn't have time to heat up before you're pulling it up into the mouthpiece. So, you get the gurgling, the juice in the mouth and the liquid dropping through the bottom of the atomiser into the battery connection (and all over your hands) . Cartomisers are far more forgiving in this, as the juice has a natural resistance by going through the filler.
It took me a couple of weeks to get it right, and it's been a long time since I got juice in my mouth now, and even the odd gurgle is far less frequent.
Thirdly, maintenance and general housekeeping stuff.
The juice in your tank is constantly being acted upon by gravity to wick down into the atomiser. So, if you leave it for several hours without having a puff, it's more likely that your atomiser will end up with too much juice in it. Take the tank off the atomiser overnight. Better still, disassemble the whole thing each night and blow through the atomiser to clear any excess liquid. Then leave it standing upside down overnight on some tissue paper or kitchen roll.
Happy vaping!
