I have to say, everyone trying to help is great. This is a whole lot more complicated than I imagined with all the options and varieties mentioned. I definitely came to the right place for help.

This place is a wealth of knowledge, but even after almost 3 years, my eyes start to glaze over reading some of this. I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be to someone brand new to vaping.

A lot of people shun the cigarette style ecigs because either they started that way and were dissatisfied or they have seen people try them, think vaping sucks and go back to smoking. While I can see that point of view as well, I can also see someone being bombarded with so much information that they decide they'll just light up because vaping seems to complicated.

The stickies in the newbie section are a good place to start to just get the basics of what types are available and what a lot of the lingo means. In the beginning I'm starting to think that keeping it as simple as possible is the way to go.

The fact that you're still here and your brain hasn't exploded yet is a good indicator of your determination to stick with this and I wish you the best of luck.

I was referencing the ones you can now find in most gas stations where they have a slender battery with a screw on replaceable cartomizer (or that's what I believe it is). Basically looks almost exactly like an analogue cigarette. I'm using them now until I get everything straight in my head.
The biggest difference between cartomizers is the threading type. After that, they're all just about the same. Some might have a hard plastic cap on the bottom end (the end you suck on) some may have a rubber end. In either case you should be able to pop that cap off and refill the carto.

If you're using one of the slender batteries and you suck on it to activate the battery (turn it on), be careful about refilling. You don't want to overfill your carto since the automatic batteries have an air intake for activation and you don't want to flood it and ruin the battery.

Hi WCoyote,

I'm a tank user of the Ego-T type, and I found that to begin with I had a lot of trouble with atomisers getting flooded and leaks etc.

Three things sorted me out.

Firstly, make sure that the cap of the tank is one of the soft rubber or silicon types.. they leak MUCH less frequently than the hard caps. Also, keep an eye on the hole in the cap, it tends to get bigger the more often you pull the tank on and off of the atomiser. Sometimes you need to replace it.

Secondly, vape technique! Long, slow vapes will make an atomiser flood far less frequently. The thing is, if you try and take short , deep puffs, the liquid is pulled into the atomiser via the suction and doesn't have time to heat up before you're pulling it up into the mouthpiece. So, you get the gurgling, the juice in the mouth and the liquid dropping through the bottom of the atomiser into the battery connection (and all over your hands) . Cartomisers are far more forgiving in this, as the juice has a natural resistance by going through the filler.
It took me a couple of weeks to get it right, and it's been a long time since I got juice in my mouth now, and even the odd gurgle is far less frequent.

Thirdly, maintenance and general housekeeping stuff.
The juice in your tank is constantly being acted upon by gravity to wick down into the atomiser. So, if you leave it for several hours without having a puff, it's more likely that your atomiser will end up with too much juice in it. Take the tank off the atomiser overnight. Better still, disassemble the whole thing each night and blow through the atomiser to clear any excess liquid. Then leave it standing upside down overnight on some tissue paper or kitchen roll.

Happy vaping! :)
