I'm 28, and have been smoking heavily since I was 12. So here's the deal: I'm not even thrity, but I have my almost-60 year old father's hacking cough. He was recently put on oxygen, and will never be able to breathe without assistance again. Don't get me wrong. . .I LOVE smoking. But I also love my daughter. She just turned two, and is the light of my life. I WANT TO BE THERE FOR HER. I want to see her grow up, get married, have kids. . .I want to still be healthy enough by the time I'm a grandfather that I can play in the dirt with my grandkids. So cigarettes have to GO. As I said in the thread title, I order my first e-cig on Monday from Cignot.com (the Joye510). I've seen tons of positive reviews, and I can't wait until it arrives. I have informed my wife that, when it gets here and I start vaping, that she is to forbid me to buy another pack of smokes. I know it wil be a tough transition, but I owe this to my kid.

You certainly have your inspiration.
Be sure you have enough pre-filled carts with your order or get on line and order some nic juice now so you don't run out and fall back to the cigarettes. Many, many excellent vendors in here. It's very easy to refill your own carts.
I'm sure you've also read how dangerous nic juice can be around little kids so I know you'll keep it far out of her reach. We've raised a half dozen and I know how they can find things everywhere.
I wish you great success. See ya around the forum.

Good advice here - I should have added that 2 of the cigarettes I had in the first few days of vaping were because I ran out of battery power. Get enough batteries, get yourself a good sampler pack of juice (I got mine from myfreedomsmokes.com and am really happy so far).

Also - make sure you have a battery charged and a cart ready to go before you go to sleep, that way you don't have to fumble with it in the morning when you get out of bed and want that early morning smoke. I've also found that a higher nic content in the morning helps me out quite a bit to get over that initial craving.

Honestly though - I have to say, other than a few specific times, I haven't really even thought about smoking since I picked up my 510. When I have, it's been because I realized I hadn't smoked...and it felt weird that I hadn't...not so much because I 'craved' it (hopefully that makes some sense).

Last piece of advice - if you really feel the urge to have a smoke, make a deal with yourself that you'll use the 510 first for a few minutes. After 5 minutes of puffing on that, I think you'll find the urge much easier to ignore.

EDITED TO ADD:
Seems ridiculous that I'm giving advice to anyone seeing as I've only had my PV for a week.
:)

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I know to keep it on a high shelf she can never reach. Nicotine is highly toxic, after all. I've been lurking here for a while, now, and have been watching the instructional vids on YouTube, so cart filling should be no problem (Can't wait to try the ADM mod. . .already have my filler material picked out). And I am ordering a 20ml bottle of 26mg nicotine juice in addition to the 510. The 510 seemed like the perfect choice for a beginner. No cutoff, awesome vapor production, sleek design, discrete size. . .I've seen so many positive reviews and demos, I knew it was the way to go (the $35 price tag on Cignot didn't hurt either. . .raising a kid is expensive, and I just don't have $75-$150 to spend on a starter kit). *sigh* And now, I wait.

I know you don't understand me saying this, but let us know how you feel after you have had the 510 for a couple of days. It's an easier change than any of us expected, I think you're in for a surprise on how much you will enjoy vaping over smoking.

Couldn't agree more.
I noticed Kurt's signature here the other day, and I've since been using it to describe vaping to my friends....

I thought I'd share my smoking history. At age twelve, a friend in school introduced me to my first cigarette. It was a full flavored 100, from a now-defunct brand called Harley Davidsons. Harleys were VERY harsh, and the filter was much smaller than most full flavor cigarettes. At the time, they were being phased out, to make way for a new brand: Mavericks (really, they were just rebranded Harleys. Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company wanted to sever their ties to the tobacco industry in light of the many lawsuits and settlements to come out of the mid-90's). So you could buy a pack of Harley Davidsons and a pack of Mavericks together for $1.19. God. . .two packs for $1.19. . .Times have changed! At 15, I switched to Doral full flavored 100's. At 16, I quit for a year and a half, and then alternated between Marlboro Reds, Basic and GPC full flavor 100's, and Camel Wides. Soon, those weren't strong enough for me, so I began "freaking" them (pulling out half or more of the filter to make them stronger). A couple of months ago, I finally switched to Marlboro Light 100's. I am now a two and a half pack a day smoker. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

This forum has been very helpful. I'll be picking up some VG from Wal-Mart soon. Since I'm getting 26mg fluid, I'll be able to cut that to about 16 or 17mg, and stretch it out for a good while. After reading about the various cart mods, I think I've figured out my own variant that should get good results, and I'll post details if it works out.
