I have no idea what you're really talking about but with organic cotton (I only really know this because I cloth diaper and know a bit about fabrics and that jazz) but organic fabrics aren't 'stripped' so they contain their natural oils. To strip organic materials of their oils I boil them with a squirt of dawn dishsoap and then rinse like mad. You can also rinse stuff like that in vinegar since it doesn't cause buildup. Of course I don't smoke my diapers so this may not help. Lol

"Sterile 100% cotton balls.

The cheapest ones you can find are just fine.

If you want to boil them, feel free.

Don't worry about what kind of chemical pesticides or fertilizers were used to grow the cotton. Any foolishness spread about the potential dangers of using conventionally grown cotton is a bunch of FUD and is meant only to separate you from your money."[/I]

You've conducted or can provide a lab study pertaining to cotton used as an atomizer coil?

Organic's coming down in price and becoming more popular, it's almost a luxury right now though.

The OP and others' interested in being %100 sure their vape experience isn't ruined by unnecessary chemicals is valid. We come in contact with chemicals all the time but we minimize how much gets into vaping.
To those interested, you'll likely have to email your way all the way to the manufacturer. I email a lot about manufacturing processes, and it's often a dead end without a full answer. It's often not worth their effort financially to follow through with the questions for a small order.

If something says it's organic doesn't mean it's free of chemicals after it's grown i.e the peroxide-treated organic cotton balls at walgreens so they can be gleaming white like bleached flour and bone-filtered sugar. Some companies gas organic produce with chems after harvest so they don't ripen as fast. I just saw a video of a US produce terminal gassing organic Dole bananas after they received them.

I'm looking for pure cotton also so I'll probably post back.

FWIW, you can probably grow veganic (organic without animal fertelizers) cotton anywhere indoors and get balls in 100 days.

"Just so you guys know, not just related to ecigs, ORGANIC is NOT necessarily safer or better. Remember that DDT is organic, and its the only organic pesticide they tend to use on organic crops, and it is extremely unsafe. "Organic" stuff is a sham imo, just get some plain old cotton balls from CVS, no need to boil, and youll be just fine

Here is one article

Would you like some DDT with that organic cucumber? — High Country News

Now there is conflicting info all over out there, im just saying, its not proven or necessarily safer either way ;)"

Even if a lab proves that a fully washed non-organic food is as safe as a veganic one, the air pollution alone from manufacturing the chemical fertelizers probably makes everyone less healthy.

Don't stand up for non-organic. They say organic tastes better and will eventually be the same price if not cheaper, so that should win anyone over regardless of their view.

That article says DDT can end up in organic produce if it's in the soil from before when a farm converts to organic. It's not added to the organic plants.
Organic agriculture is subject to many contaminants even though there are no chemicals sprayed on it. E.g a huge vapor trail from a jet with leaded fuel dropping lead everywhere, animal product fertelizers allowed to be used for organic farming and they probably can be from factory farm animals pumped full of chemicals. Monsanto's GMO seeds can pollinate and blow down wind and ruin an entire organic farm, etc.

I honor your confidence, that over-thinking some things alone might make one sick, but when we look at it closely, this makes no sense.

Don't panic, it's veganic.

Sterile simply means it has been heated to a high enough temperature to kill bacteria. Doesn't mean the pesticides have been removed.

I'm going to try natural wool. Not a lot of pesticides used to grow sheep...

I agree... Sterile means void of life, not void of chemicals or anything else. I used straight CVS sterile cotton and there was a off taste to it. Then I boiled it 3x and no taste at all.

Well, I switched juices in one of my tanks today to a lighter tasting fruit juice. I think it is one of the heads I built using the Peaches & Cream yarn and there is now an 'off' taste to it...kinda chemically, like it wasn't boiled enough.

I've only been analog free for a couple months and I read somewhere on the forums here that your taste buds will change a couple times once you quit smoking. Any truth to this or has anyone noticed this?

Does straight VG have any taste to it? I'd like to do a taste test using silica, yarn and cotton balls.

It has a lot more taste than I thought it would but it tastes a lot better than I thought. Plain %100 VG at about 8MG is one of my fav vapes. At only 8MG, I can taste the tobacco from nic concentrate though. VG is very sweet by itself straight from the container hence why it's a sweetener. It's sticky like maple syrup.

Maybe %100 PG will have less flavor.

With natural fiberous wicks (hemp, cotton, bamboo, etc), most say you'll taste it at first regardless.

Although I do use organic cotton, I will say that the "organic" label really doesn't mean that much if the grower/distributor isn't completely honest and ethical.

The "organic" labeling isn't something that's a law or an enforced standard; it's an agreement based on certain conditions, and there's been a lot of cases of unethical people taking advantage of consumer - hey, why make only $1.20 profit on those beans when you can make $8.00 by calling them organic and sell them off to unsuspecting and often naive consumers.

I use organic cotton balls because I hope they're not contaminated by...stuff... that will hang on after boiling. Fact is, I don't know for sure, but I think the odds of normally grown cotton has a bigger chance of carrying the nasties.

The FDA knows what's better for us, they'll chime in shortly I'm sure...
Mean time I just use the sterile cotton balls as is from CVS.. If a doctor on an O.R. table can stick this stuff in our organs while operating, I don't think this stuff will hurt us.
.Unless you cook and burn it pretty good while vaping with it..
Any surgeons in the house!!!!

You have got to love the hysteria !
It wasn't long ago that we were putting 500 chemicals in ourselves some as much as 50 times a day!
now its track that bird down I want a lab test to see what he ate he just .... on this cotton field

I agree, it's enough to make me go out and buy a pack and say peace on it, but, I won't. :)

Yes, but your spleen doesn't have taste buds...!

Make sure your hands are clean too, you can have the purest, cleanest cotton in the world but when you touch it with dirty hands even if it's only a little dirt, your wick can get funky.

Dirt I'm okay with, it's hand lotion I don't want to vape. Nivea tastes NASTY!

Update on the "Koh Gen Do" brand cotton make-up pads" that have not been chemically treated, bleached, or pigmented and are "medical grade." I ordered them and compared them to CVS sterile rolled cotton as wick material. I boiled neither.

Neither are completely devoid of flavor (both impart an ever so slight "cottony" taste that is only noticeable right as the wick is about to run dry and another "squonk" or drip is needed. While part of me wishes there was no taste at all, I am actually learning to appreciate that very delicate cottony taste, as it delivers the "alert" I need to re-drip, thus preventing any dry or scorched hits.

The difference between the two cottons for anyone who was curious is that the Koh Gen Do are not as absorbent. In fact, that is why they are considered superior for makeup and makeup removal. But for me, the vape is not as good. They don't soak up as much e-liquid, so you have to drip more often.

Other than that, both are fine... and I still haven't received any definitive answers regarding the "to boil or not to boil" conundrum.
