Planning on making my way to the local Walmart/ CVS/ Walgreen's later to pick up some sterile cotton. I'm completely unfamiliar with the cotton boiling process and can't find many videos/ threads on it. My questions are:

1. Do I need to boil Sterile Cotton? I've read on various posts and websites it's not necessary for sterile and organic.

2. How long should I boil it for? Just once or twice?

3. What is an effective drying process?

Starting to sail into uncharted waters for myself here and this forum is always so helpful :) itching to start building coils as well. Thanks in advance ECF!!! :vape:

1) Technically, no, but there may still be some flavor to it. Boiling should help get rid of that...if it can be gotten rid of. I don't care for cotton for that reason, to me it has a distinct flavor I don't like.

2) Once is fine. For attempting flavor removal, I've gone up to four times. But really, once.

3) Lay out and let dry. I put a small fan on low on mine to dry it faster.

Hello
I was in your position a few weeks ago and I read and read until I finally picked up some Organic cotton balls from CVS and some Sugar and Cream cotton yarn (white) from Wal-Mart.

I used both without boiling and then I boiled some and tried that.

You can do it either way but I preferred the taste after boiling especially on the organic cotton balls.

T0 dry I placed everything on paper towels and just let air dry for a few days. Both wick well enough for me but I have settled on the Sugar and Cream cotton yarn.

good luck on finding what works best for you.

I use it on my current drip tanks and have had no issues in flavor and quality of vape. It's only upgraded those for me. Thanks for the info :)

De nada. Everybody differs, to me silica has no taste. Others say it tastes awful. Vice-versa with cotton, which I can't stand--to me, it tastes like a combination of candle wax and dryer fuzz. :)

you have actually tasted candle wax and dryer fuzz??

I make candles, so yes on the first, and breathing when cleaning the fuzz filter will give you the taste of dryer fuzz.

So actually...I guess the answer is an unqualified yes in both cases.

Due to an injury I haven't been able to build any coils for a while so a friend here sent me some. I'd never used cotton before. I'd tried ekowool (hated it) & only used silica from rtd vapor before & loved it! But I loved the cotton yarn even more so I asked him where he'd gotten it & went to get some from Micheals just this morning! I got exactly what my friend told me which was the Lily brand Sugar'n Cream white cotton yarn. 120 yards for $2.12 & when I asked he said he didn't boil it. I haven't had any issues with taste.

Couldn't find sterile cotton at any of the stores/ pharmacies I checked. Tried all sections like the first aid area and hobby sections but nothing. Ended up getting this and will be boiling it at least twice.

I use the walgreens organic cotton. I don't boil it. Cotton is usually bleached with hydrogen peroxide. It's H2O2 which is water with an extra oxygen atom. It breaks down to water + oxygen when vaped. Not necessarily harmful. I find that it has a cottony taste for about 5 vapes when you first use it then you don't taste it after that. Some people may continue to taste it afterward though. It absorbs liquid much better than silica and gives a richer hit.

I picked up some Walgreens organic cotton and just tried it on two RDA's and tastes a little funny to me
