Origin Clone

I dunno ECF search sux or there's no interest in the Origin Clone here.

I received mine from fasttech today. SS V1 Origin.
It's a perfect hybrid home for it's Tobeco Aqua clone.

Since it seems there may not be much interest here, I'll keep this short.

Fit and finish is excellent.
Extra (kick) tube doesn't fit in 18650 (I haven't tried any other battery) - the kick tube isn't long enough.
My flat top batteries seemed too long - I could not dial back the battery rattle adjuster - it bottomed out.
I removed the o-ring on it, but found it to have excessive play in the switch housing. I wrapped it in PTFE tape and that worked perfectly.
Airlfow control - I haven't used it yet.
Switch adjuster may be annoying, but I've got mine dialed in and working perfectly.
I ditched the stock spring right away with some magnets.

Mine came with all sliver plated contacts and switch/throw adjusting pin.

I got it mainly for the Aqua. I have another brass one coming.
Personally I don't have a problem with it, but others complain about the switch/adjustable throw, the lock ring, and size/battery rattle adjustment.

I have the brass model with copper contact. Honestly I have so many and it is in daily rotation with the nemesis, I love brass and besides a couple issues I would buy another one. after getting the lock ring sorted I can spin once and its butter and no big deal at all. I lock the contact and all on bottom button tight so it does not come apart and have heard some people have to sand the delrin to get batts to fit but mine is perfect for sony and panny flats. Overall I have kayfun on it and its bad ... but the aqua is the next buy for it once they come out with a brass cap to match the origin!

I have one and it is my least used mechanical. I got it for hybrid with the aqua. I wind up using my aqua clone on my nemi or provari.

I like the Origin clone, I have it perfectly adjusted. I hate the lock ring on that thing

How did you sort the locking ring ?
I hate the origin switch/locking ring.
Otherwise it's a nice mod.
The Aqua is awesome.

I took it all apart, THen lightly sanded both sides of thread contacts and then sanded the lower part of switch so it is just slightly smaller diam. then the lock ring. alittle lubro-moly mos4 and bam I can spin it once and it will lock or unlock no problems

try putting in freezer for about an hour and then torching the lock ring and spinning with a pair of pliars wrapped with electric tape

I have no idea how so many people have issues with the locking ring.

Get it moving once then don't crank it down when you unlock it, problem solved.

I like the aqua + origin combo so much I have another on the way.

When I spin the locking ring, the spring spins and catches the vent slots on the button.
Just a poor design IMHO.

I'm with you on that one st0nedp... I really dig my Origin/Aqua combo... I have yet to find a need to actually lock mine. It has never fired in my shirt pocket, pants pocket, or even when I set it down. If anyone is having a problem and need to actually lock the device, then you haven't adjusted the switch properly... My switch has been vastly improved since I first received it and all it took was removing the spring and replace it with magnets. Dialed in the adjustment and its perfect. Again, i've never found it necessary to lock it... I've owned a SmokTech Natural for about a year and a half and never locked it... I would rather they not even put one on a device...

The aqua origin hybrid is great, unfortunately I wouldn't use the origin with anything else. For some reason I cannot get the battery to NOT rattle in it for the life of me (except in hybrid mode). The switch locking ring doesn't bother me because the switch is so stiff that it wont fire if I put a brick on top of the mod. But with the aqua on top it's great and hits realllllly hard in hybrid mode. Does any one have the Hcigar aqua/Origin combo? Do they complement each other as well as the Tobeco aqua/origin hybrid?

You should be able to get rid of the rattle by extending the nylon ring in the base. You will also need to adjust the switch throw using the adjustment pin in the center of the firing button.

What size did you use? I need criteria to start the hunt. FatDaddyVapes has them but doesn't reveal the size and they are pricey there. Thanks!

I didn't think $8 was that expensive at all when I ordered them from FatDaddy... I purchased them from his site instead of his Ebay store because they were cheaper. I don't have a caliper or I would measure them for you. Sorry...

If you have the aqua/Origen combo from Tobeco,
You can unscrew the base of the aqua, and swap the center contact for one of the pins from the parts bag, and bam!
Hybrid.
