The first car we bought for my wife (as my wife) was a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. This was when we were expecting our first child and figured we should get something that for my wife to drive that wouldn't be a deathtrap for a child. It was also the time that Toyota was wait-listing customers for Priuses (sp? Prii?). The local Toyota dealer didn't have one to testdrive (the manager had taken it home for the weekend) and asked for $500 to be put on the list--we said thank you and went down the street where we bought the first civic hybrid we saw. The MPG is not as good as the Prius, but it is still pretty good. She still drives it today.
Actually it was my second...after I blew the engine in the hand-me-down 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix by letting it roll backwards down a large hill, flooring it and jerking it into Drive!
The first I ever had a car loan on was a 1970 Audi Super 90, nice little 4-door, 4-speed, battleship gray, about the weight of a VW bug, with a 4 cylinder Porche engine with dual carb. I could surprise Cameros & Firebirds at the traffic light....
Had a Chevy Astro for the family vehicle while stationed in Quantico.
All of my stateside vehicles were Chevys - except for the GMC Jimmy and that's the same as but without the bowtie emblem.
