Yes, congratulations Bmay. :D Best mod available as it is and when Pailpoe's VW for it is released......

Yes, Starting to read a little on this now actually. I'm not real sure I'll go for that seeing as one can make a atty of any ohm they wish. I think i wrapped mine 5 times, maybe 4?? but mine ohms out to be around 2.1/2.2 Ohm. Dont think I would want one any hotter, at least during this break in period.

My main problem now folks.......I REALLY do not want to take this thing out of the house. I know it can be polished and all but....I would cause a big scene and prolly wind up being committed if someone witnessed my dropping this beauty while I was out.

Pretty sure the ole eGo with tank is gonna be the only one allowed to travel with me.

Fair do's, I hear you.

I don't know if I can resist having a remote controlled Mod. :)

I have NO issues at all making the mesh, oxidizing, coil setup or any of that. I work with electronics all day every day so spotting a problem is quick.....But...

Maybe a dumb question??? I see youtube etc reviews and everyone seems to vape these with the end facing upwards. I presume to aid in the wicking. I'm use to vaping down as I've used carto tanks for a while and I'm use to keeping the hole in the carto down.

If i vape this down I get a VERY harsh (dry) burn quick. Does everyone vape the Orion/Zen/ pretty much any atty like this pointing upwards to provide juice to the wick??????????

Just asking if I need to change my habit or is mine not wicking like it could/should

ALSO: I'm using mainly PG juice, 400 mesh

No I have no need to Bmays.

I am vaping 50/50 PG/VG, with up to ten second long drags and I am not getting dry hits.

First I would suggest, what width are you cutting your wicks? I was using a width around 30mm at first and had a little wicking trouble. I lowered that to 20mm and it is great now.

Just to be sure and please forgive me if these points sound patronising, is your coil o.k.? I mean all coils bubbling on fire up? Check under good lighting to see easier.
Also is your coil in good contact with the wick everywhere? If it is loose and not in contact in places, that can cause hotspots and a harsh taste.

Here is a pic of my current wick and coil and the best one to date.

Here is some more info from one of the masters of SS wick, Lorderos. :) Regarding the wicks break in period.

Hope this helps.

I have it about 2-2.5mm from the bottom. I try to keep the coils from choking the wick so that the wick could be slid if needed. Almost makes me think its getting a little too hot but it ohms out to about 2ohms every time I make a coil.

The coil wire is .30 (.25) instead of the .32 (.20). I have ordered some .20 wire but that should not have anything to do with this.

TheMeshCompany sent me 2 extra sheets of what looks like maybe 325?? No way to tell so I suppose I could try another wick sometime.

My mesh starts out at 20mmx30mm. Is that the standard? it vapes fine if I keep er tilted.

I keep a syringe needle in the wick and wrap it as tight as possible, without cutting into the wick. It cannot be slid out of the coils, it is that tight. Also mine is four wraps, (I didn't check the OhMs.) so I doubt that is your problem either. Also I am using a high drain safe chemistry 18650, namely Panasonic CGR18650CH easily the best 18650 I have ever used. Cracking.
Yes, I doubt the wire would make a difference either. Have you checked your coil to see where it is getting hot first? Maybe that would help determine the trouble? Trying to brain storm this. :)

Yes that is around standard, checked the Orion blog and there it states 25mm x 30 mm

One last thing I believe I am using #325 on this wick, although I still believe you should be fine with the #400.

*Edit. Did you read the Lorderos tip link above I gave? http://ukvapers.com/topic/10675-katana/page__st__2060__p__307410#entry307410 Another thought that's all.

Oh yes Bmays. :) Definately too tight, with the dimensions you gave 20x30mm (Same size as mine..;) :p) (Stop with the innuendo already Julian. :D) I roll it around a medium syringe and you want it to lightly hug the walls of the orions wick hole.

*Edit. I had a thought, are you a girl Bmays? As then you obviously will not be the same size. :)

All the best with your next wick. :nun:

Ah, that helps a lot. Mine has WAY to much room in the hole to touch the sides. Since I work with electronics a short is my biggest fear, so I wound it pretty tight. The first one I did I insulated with teflon tape but figured it best I not vape that stuff if'ns the tape got too hot:p

Also, I did in fact have a hot spot. I discovered it when I removed the top to take the pic. After making a new wick setup tomorrow I'll let y'all know how it works out. Thanks a million for the help.

And no, 100% male here...

You have helped immensely. I couldn't wait, I made a new wick this morning and rolled it in my hand rather than rolling in on the "wire" that I was using thus making it more loose. I could actually see the "screen" when heating the mesh this time rather than it looking like a solid tube before. >I.e. too tight<

I did have a very hard time getting rid of shorts this time. My first coil popped as soon as I hit the button. The second tested my patients very well. I would up tipping the device and flooding it while holding the button as it burned and created just enough gunk buildup.

Will see if it feeds better this time.

Update, not to hog the thread but these points are a wonderful learning tool for anyone else reading that may be thinking of going the genisis route or is having trouble.

This mornings wick/coil was very short lived. I kept having hot spots / shorts so I did it again this evening only diffrent yet. I think my obsessive compulsive nature to make things "perfect" were hendering my ability to make a good functioning setup.

I was folding about a 1/16th or so on one edge like you are supposed to but every time I used one of those small 6" steel rules to "flatten" the folded edge. I'm almost positive the "flatening" of the wick using the rule was breaking the steel fibers and creating the same effect as not folding at all. When I un-wound this mornings wick there were several burn holes in the problem area.

Tonight I just folded by hand and rolled it up. I made sure the coil had about the same contact with the wick all the way up. I turned the device up and gave it quite a few short burst with the wick wet with fluid. Only had one hot spot tonight that was quickly addressed.

I start the break-in period all over again so I'm hoping to only have to top off my tank for a few weeks now...Fingers crossed

On a side note, have any of you enlarged the air intake hole? I'm thinking hard about it but I can't un-ring that bell so I want to be sure before I do. My vapor production is a little on the low side. I did however enlarge the mouth-piece hole on my drill press. Original was way to small.
