How beautiful they are!

I don't believe I've ever seen or even heard of this species of bird. Is it strictly indigenous to the Pacific Northwest?

:)D Yes, I know about the Detroit Redwings. Are they named after this bird?)

Eleanor, you have them where you are too...... they're pretty much everywhere in the country. Usually you see them hanging out at the edge of farm fields, often on a stalk of tall grass or cattails like in GPR's photo. They come to feeders too, if you're not too far from open land. You've probably heard them even if you've not seen them.

Lovely, GPR!

The males look all flashy to attract the females. The females are drab so they can blend in with the foliage to protect the nest. Why do us humans do the opposite? I want to see more flashy males dammit :D

Fire Island, honey chile, Fire Island. Or the Castro. :D

Just sayin'. Afraid it wouldn't do you or I much good though, except strictly as a "spectator" kind of thang . . .
