plarkinjr, glad I responded cuz the 2nd paragraph doesn't show up. I have all the respect in the world for people who foster. I couldn't do it because I'd just end up keeping them. I figure that I am contributing a small part by only adopting rescues. Thanx for all you and your wife do as foster mom & dad. ;-)

You are contributing a HUGE part by doing that! You help folks understand that adoption is preferable to buying from a pet-store.

Our most recent foster addition is a little guy we found roaming busy streets near a turnpike. He's probably 9mos old and I call him "scrote" - because he has not been fixed yet. We're working on a date with the Vet who founded on of our rescue groups to get that rectified. After that, he'll be called "Scooter". :D

Both my dogs are somewhat rescues. Chewy is a Shih Tzu. She showed up on my front porch about a year ago in VERY bad shape. We have dogs show up all the time, but they usually leave after a little bit. She stayed on my front porch for 3 days. I put food and water out for her, but then felt so bad for her. It was starting to get really cold. We decided to bring her inside and let her stay warm. We posted found dogs ads, but nobody called. I took her to my sister who is a groomer. She cleaned her up and we had to shave her down to her skin due to all the mats. He nails were so long the dew claws were growing back into her skin and were infected. Once we got her all done up she was beautiful! She seems almost appreciative to us for saving her. She has turned out to be the best dog I've ever owned! My little sweetheart! Our newest addition is a 2 year old Doberman. I had a doberman when I was younger and always wanted one, but never had the money to buy one, and was a little nervous having one around my kids, just because of the size. She was a friend of mine's bosses. They had her from a puppy, but they were forced out of their home and couldn't take care of her anymore. He called and asked if I could take her. I said I would on a trial to make sure my kids would be okay with her. She is a big sweetheart also. Aside from the few "I'm hyper and don't know what to do with myself so I'm gonna plow you over" moments she's been great! I think I have come to decide that my dogs are here due to fate, and that makes the best friends you could ever find.
