Not feeling the love for Sony at all! Had a PS3 for four years? The blue ray drive died, no matter what, $100 in parts, $150 if I had it done. Everyone I talked to said to upgrade with the new one, "It's better equipment, faster, smoother, more better!"
As this was the blu ray player in the living room, and entertainment for our son, as well as her nephews every other weekend, she decided to bite the bullet. We bought a new system tonight. Trust me, not an easy thing to do in our financial world!
The upgrades are slow as molasses, and now that most are done, I've NO sound! Yeah, this is a huge improvement! Thank you so much for the upgrades Sony! It might have sucked before, but now it just blows in silence! I am so thrilled I get to figure out how to fix this now!
GRRRRRRRRR!

Xbox 360 charges for stuff everyone else gets for free, so once you get your sound fixed at least you'll have that going fr you. Plus a BD player, Xbox will never spring for that, even as an external device, and you can easily upgrade your own HDD. I'll buy a Sony, eventually, and probably never renes my Xbox live gold account after that.

Rebooted the system and TV, I have sound now, and more updates, YAY! I started this at 8pm central time, I've yet to even log on and play anything!
I just love how a 12min download turns into 45 min!
I dunno, I think I see Nintendo in my future! I've not heard many good stories of X-box either!

Dude, don't get a Wii. That isn't a gaming console it's crappy home exercise kit and a board game; and all consoles have updates. Next to having a very expensive PC-Gaming system you've got the best system out there.

(except for the glossy finish, I'd go ape.... with all the smudges, 3rd best thing about vaping is the dramatic reduction in the hours I spend cleaning dust bunnies off of electronics)

$79 Samsung Bluray player, takes about 1min 20sec average to do updates once a month or so.

Gaming? That's what the Quad-285 (dual 295's) are for... ;)

(well, actually, not really. They spend most of their time doing math-intensive jobs. But every now and again the need to kill something overrides the need to calculate something...)

I'm with you on that one Saw sir. Updates for the ps3 take forever..... The only suggestion I have is step away from it, and don't go handling your favorite weapons... I almost took an axe to mine out of frustration..... Many an electronic has felt the wrath of that item.... Did you know verizon warranty doesn't cover hacking apart your blackberry?

Folding at home being one of them Ms. Addy? The only issue I have with quad sli is the microstutter on certain games. I had tri-sli back with the 8800 ultras, and had a lot of issues with it. Why I never go with more than 2 now... I love my 2 480's...

I'm an avid fan of Xbox solely because Halo & Gears of War series are exclusive on it.

I have a Wii as well, but only use it for Rock Band/Guitar Hero type games.

Most of my gaming is done on my PC though.

+1 for PC gaming! Found out I like building them more though.

Did updates until 3am, 608mb for GT5, 27 updates for little big planet, then checked all the Lego's, Star wars, Indiana Jones and Batman. Finally got to play a little. I was up to 4:30 messing with GT5. It sucks we lost all the data! That was my fault, I tried to format the HD trying to make the system work! I had 46% on GT5, my son had 100% on Indiana Jones, 96% on Star wars and better than 50% on Batman! It's all gone!
Another thing, do the new PS3"s not have wifi? I messed around and messed around and never found the setting for that yet?

Saw, look under network settings, wifi works quite well. Long download times are most commonly associated with Playstation Network server congestion; try doing the updates in the morning (when all the hardcore gamers finally go to bed). The teenage boys prefer XBox 360 for most online shooter games, so we have two XBox 360 consoles (added Kinect recently to one of them - pretty cool actually). We also have two PS3's (which I prefer), one WII, and 3 PS2's (one still connected somewhere, one for our Arcade console in the bar, and one for the cabin).

Nope! There was a time, years ago, when I was simultaneously #1 on Folding, Genome, and one other. When they pretty much all went to boinc was when I checked out (java? Way to be disrespectful to my cycles!). But at the time, there wasn't even a GPU process, it was still on on CPU (I was running over 200 1.8Ghz Athlons). I was well placed in the top-500 super computers at the time.

Naw, these are either personal projects or time I'm renting out. (36 hex cores all with quad GPU)

I haven't noticed any stuttering, but I stick primarily to Fallout and FarCry, Crysis.

Figured you'd be running a dual cpu set up, little surprised Ms. Addy. Are you using an amd board with a sli software hack or one of the nvidia based chipsets? I do miss the days when those two companies got along, hated switching to intel..... Are you on air or liquid cooling? Sorry, can talk pc's all day...

I'll take pics of Glamdring tonight and post them...

I was running duallie xeons, but the hex cores decimate them in price-performance.

And when you're running dozens of machines, it's about price/performance and maintenance. The fastest machine in the world on paper is the slowest when it's down...

And that's why you don't liquid cool. Cute when you have one machine, a nightmare when you have dozens.

All my machines are dual-295's at the moment (quad 285). In a few generations I'll look at the latest and greatest again. :)

I don't run SLI on the workstations, it's too big a performance hit. It's only useful for gaming.
