I have a Border Collie /Australian Shepherd mix, a mini Australian Shepherd (both crazy neurotic but gorgeous manic creatures), and a ....zu / Pug mix (a lovable but ugly little thing my wife brought home from rescue). My kids have had hamsters, birds, fish, and lizards through the years, thankfully we are down to just 3 beasts to worry about :)

Like your menagerie Ky, I grew up on a farm, loved horses especially, but HATED the stupid sheep!

Edit: They bleeped my dog breed! Since I can't type the actual word, you can guess from: Sitzu / Pug (add h as the second letter)

Three VERY naughty cats at my house, and an albino burmese python. The kittens I adore. The snake is a big grouch, though, and she stays in her enclosure most of the time.

We used to have a red-tailed boa that was very tractable and friendly. We took her for walks around our neighborhood. That won't happen with our present snake. Did I mention I don't like her much?

We have 4 cats. (3 are rescue cases - I'm a sucker for injured animals or people ready to send good pets to the aspca for no good reason!)

Though if I had it my way... We'd also have a few large dogs, a room full of bearded dragons, a few snakes, ferrets, tropical fish, a few horses.... 8-o Thank goodness hubby keeps me in check! :D

The kind of person who would take good pets to the ASPCA for "no good reason" is exactly the kind of person who shouldn't have pets in the first place. Better they have a chance to be adopted by someone who can give them the love and attention they need than to stay with someone who has so little appreciation for how great pets are.

Where I live (near the river) people come sometimes and drop off the unwanted litters their pets produce - that's how my first cat came to be - he walked in off the street at about two months old. He was all ribs and eyeballs, starving to death, but he was all chill around people from day one. I'm pretty sure someone dropped him by the river to "fend for himself".

(It's okay, they lost out - I got the COOLEST cat in the world from their negligence)

That's really awesome! They are the best cats , I think. They're just different than pets you'd get a pet store for example. It's like they know you helped them or something- we can't walk through a single room in our house without one of them at our feet tripping us! (though I love it of course) Most of ours even greet us at the door like dogs! I just love my little fur-monsters!

Cool thread. I dig my critters. 2 dogs terrior briard mixes two brothers I rescued. 3 cats also brothers rescued they are bengal mixes so they are huge. Two rabbits English spots that are breeders. They are pets and won't get chowed on but the offspring are dinner. The rest of my critters are not pets they are livestock. I try and keep it seperate because otherwise my wife and kids won't let me eat them and I would end up with an awful lot of pets.
