You can get on the web with their 3G network. WiFi is something the place you are or your home has to have in order for you to access. I have a Blackberry and I'm on T-Mobile and I can use their network anywhere or my home WiFi or WiFi wherever I go if they have it.

I have heard good things about Walmart's Straight Talk phones/plans. Check them out.

For that price you could buy the thingy ma bob USB from Virgin Mobile or someone for pay as ya go with no contract fer internet anywheres too Kittypies. That is ,iffin ya don't be wanting the phone itself  I dunno your situations, but I seen them things at Walmarts even :smokie:

Yeah, I'd be wanting the phone but not a contract. I have a pay-as-you-go dumb phone and it's not holding a charge very well lately. I'm thinking "Christmas bonus - gift to self".

If my other-half-of-the-duplex neighbor has WiFi, could I "piggy-back" on his, so to speak? I live in a densely populated part of the city, if that makes any difference.

If he has an open connection. Normally people password protect their WiFi. I do.

Oh, I would definitely ask him first. From what y'all are saying, I would not have to order internet service for my home in order to connect to the net with this phone, correct?

So, does this look like a decent smart phone? Is the price reasonable? The "plan" is $45/mo for unlimited data. I am mainly interested in this phone from this particular vendor because I would be able to pay the purchase price in four equal monthly installments.

Someone Geekier has to chime in here but in my experience with my Blackberry, I would not have to have internet at my home in order to get online with my phone.
Kitty, that phone however is sold out. :(

IF you have a smartphone and subscribe to access on the phone YOU DO NOT need internet at home also .
Since you live in an area with reception ,you wont have any trouble .I am in a rural area and my phone doesnt work at house so i have to go into town to use it .IF you go somewhere ( like a coffee shop ) you can switch to their FREE wifi IF your smartphone is capable of that like mine or an i-phone .
p.s. I currently have tmobile contract and contracr is up in feb and i am going to Virgin Mobile no contract and buy the phone .
Tmobile just recently added this service to be competitive .
p.s the only reason you would not use your phone to get on net is if your min are limited ,what i am getting is unlimited web, text etc as a package with only the minutes limited as i don't talk that much on phone .:) research it carefully .

p.s. of the providers i've found most if not all will not activate a smartphone as just a phone so youre going to have trouble without a pay as you go or monthly no contract that includes web service .I would ,go into a store and get it over hsn because you might not get the phone support you need .:(

Yeah just like others said you will not need a wifi connection to access the web with a smartphone. However it will be slow. Wifi connection will be faster but the phone needs to have that capability. However I have no idea abt payg plans. I've always uswd contracts and since I've been with VZW for over 10 yrs now a two year contract means nothing to me.
