Oh, wow this caused me to remember things from way back....

#1. Charlie Daniel's Band - I wasn't a fan at the time, 79-80?, but got free tickets and the live performance of Devil Went Down to Georgia was amazing. If you ever see a group of guys coming to the front of the stage with quivers of fiddle bows on their backs and not a single one remains in the quiver when the song is over, it better be the best playing of fiddles you ever couldn't imagine.

#2. Here Come The Mummies - Corny name and funny lyrics, but an amazing live performance. Just saw them a few weeks ago with my youngest son. It was the first time I had seen him dance, completely unrehearsed and spontaneous, in public. Very high energy and the music didn't stop even when they tripped a circuit breaker.

#3. Joe Walsh - I'd go just to watch him play a guitar even without sound. He just has fun on stage with his music.

I've seen quite a few and many that are more popular and/or famous, but these really were the best performances. (Springfield, Bob Segar, AC/DC, Ozzy, Blue Oyster Cult, et al, were all real good and I had a good time, but "best" needs something more.)

Never got to see them perform. Always enjoyed their music though... Makes me wonder how their live act is compared to say Joan Jett who puts out an incredible amount of energy when she performs. (sound system sucked when I saw her, but she, and the whole band, put on a lively show)

I'm sure one of the many Dead Heads here has already piped in. They were the quintessential live American band. Too bad the whole hippie thing was so interlinked which is an obvious and understandable "turn off" to many. I know and love all kinds of old Folk and Country and Bluegrass and Gospel tunes thanks to Dead shows and I wasn't even aware of it at the time. I just knew they played a lot of covers. :)

They also essentially invented "jamming" and each song from a whole set often would just melt into the next.

My second favorite all time was Willie Nelson at Rothbury in 2008. Earlier on the last day and most of the crowd was in their tents, surprisingly. We were like 20 feet from the stage.

Rage Against The Machine ~'98... freaking awesome (Southpark Meadows, Austin, Tx.)
3x Nine Inch Nails- '96, '99, and '07 (IIRC) all were spectacular (Southpark Meadows, Starplex in Dallas, Toyota Center in Houston, respectively)
Tool- Lollapalooza and Lateralus (Starplex and Retana (sp?) Park Polo Grounds, San Antonio, Tx)
Sevendust, Coal Chamber, and Powerman 5000- '97 (Emo's, Austin, Tx)

Disappointments include Pantera. Dimebag and Vinnie rocked. Phil and Rex... not so much.
I def concur with the previous experience of Type O Negative, save your money, lol!
