If your a do it yourself'er and your out of shaving cream, you can use VG ! Yep.. glycerin.. mostly our own Vegetable Glycerin is used in making soaps and shaving creams. It helps the razor glide across your face and head in a smooth way.
I am a head shaver and do not as a rule use any shaving cream, water or oils to shave my face and head. I just dry shave. It's what I got used to and didn't waste money all those years on shaving creams. Recently after about a year I started shaving my head again and joined some forums for bald men to get head shaving tips. After lots of advice i decided to give shaving with "something" a try to see if it could help me get a better shave. I looked up homemade shaving creams and other substances one could use.
Two of those substances were hair conditioner and glycerin. I tried both each on one side of my head. The glycerin side had a very smooth glide to it, while the conditioner side gave me a closer shave. So, I mixed equal portions of the two and BAM! I got an awesome very close shave that was very smooth on the razor glide with no cuts, burns or scratches.
If it comes to it, you can use either conditioner or VG by themselves. I got such great results I may stick to these two and not even worry about buying a shaving cream.
