Just because you feel features are gimmicky doesn't mean others will feel the same way.
For instance, I'd rather be able to upgrade the firmware of my device from my computer than send it off somewhere and pay to have it upgraded ... or be forced to purchase the new revision that fixes the issues that should have been fixed to begin with.
To some that could be a gimmick ... to me it's an easy and logical step towards the right direction when it comes to consumer satisfaction.
I also like how I can statistically track the life I am getting out of my battery over time. Eventually I would be able to figure out which batteries provide the best performance over time in a MUCH easier way.
