Hi, I started smoking at a young age, 15 y/o, and became a heavy smoker, not going a single day without tobacco for 12 entire years. I was a chain smoker, pure and simple, lighting up constantly and at every opportunity. I developed a taste for very strong tobacco a few years back, smoking cigars and pipe tobacco I made into roll-ups. For 3 years, I smoked over 50 grams a day of this really strong pipe tobacco, so dark it was black in colour. I'm only 28 years old, but until I started vaping, I had the lungs of an old man; a hacking cough, and seriously reduced lung capacity - I felt out of breath almost all the time.

around 6 months ago, my mum brought me a rechargeable "cig-a-like" model, just a cheap one. I wasn't impressed; It just didn't give me the heavy throat and lung hit I needed, so I carried on smoking my pipe baccy. Then I started researching these other types of device-ones with refillable liquid in a variety of flavours, that apparently were far superior to the model I'd tried.

Just over 2 weeks ago, I decided enough was enough: I went to my local vaping store and spent all of my tobacco money on an e-cig starter kit, (Kanger Esmart, spare clearomizers, and loads of juice.) My thinking was to give myself no choice in the matter: I had to vape, because I simply had no money for tobacco. Well, this worked out perfectly for me; I was very impressed and satisfied with the E-cig I'd brought - I used a premium caramel tobacco flavour juice, and found the throat hit to be just perfect, it had a kick to it, but it also felt lighter and cleaner than the toxic crap I'd been smoking for years.

So, I'm over 2 weeks past my last rolly, and can honestly say I've no craving for one at all; I still can't believe this is possible tbh. This whole vaping thing is more than just a habit to me: it's like a new hobby, and a very rewarding one. (Nothing can beat the feeling of vaping a delicious new flavour of juice IMO), and the hardware is also fascinating to me, as I'm a bit of a gadget fan. Right now, I'm using Evod tanks with 900 batteries, and in time I'll invest in more sophisticated hardware.

anyway, sorry for the reaaally long post there, but tbh I'm very proud of the fact I'm no longer a smoker, and just had to share my story.

That is an awesome story. Similar to mine, but 30+ years of handrolled shag tobaccos. Now over 3 months free of them, and I feel wonderful! Congrats on the transition.

I think that those of us who smoked handrolled, pipe and cigar tobacco have it a bit easier because there are far wewer chemicals in them than in 'by the pack' smokes. Of course, I'm not saying that it will be easy for anyone.. it was for me.

Thanks mate, and also well done to you for quitting. I know it's gonna take months for my lungs to fully heal, but even after 2 weeks, that feeling of never seeming to quite get enough air when I breathe is gone. I honestly thought quitting would be impossible, but with vaping it was more than easy; I prefer it to tobacco - it's more than just a mere substitute to me. (And I've tried the patches, gums, inhalers, and found them all useless, at least for me.

Who knows? Maybe in 10 years, there will be no smokers - only vapers - and that's a really cool thought. I've lost too many relatives to cancer caused by smoking to feel anything but hatred for tobacco. Even when I was smoking it, I didn't really like it, if you know what I mean, and IMHO tobacco is a toxic drug that should be banned as an addictive substance.

Hello and Congratulations Cap'nTripps! Awesome story. I'm like you, I hated tobacco but I couldn't quit it until vaping came into my life. It's great being able to breath, taste, and smell again. I was a 33yr 2 p.a d. smoker and I was in hook, line, and sinker. I couldn't go anywhere if it wasn't allowed so that really limited me. I hated going places where you're pretty much obligated to go, weddings, graduation, etc.... and want a cigarette. The whole time you're looking to get out of there so you can smoke. Vaping has made this much easier for me in that I don't crave it like I did cigarettes and can go longer periods in between vapes. Happy vaping to you :vapor:

Cap'nTripps, great to hear your story - congratulations!! It's so good to get away from that "slavery" that so many of us experienced, isn't it?!! 4 1/2 months in (after a 47-year smoking 'career'), I am still amazed that vaping works so well and almost instantly for so many, especially when the other approved methods did not work well and made us miserable. Magical, miraculous!!

Thanks everyone for the great and positive feedback. Yeah, tobacco does become a type of slavery, definitely; you're just shackled to that stuff. Also, I remember the constant frustration - being in a place (everywhere indoor, basically), for extended periods of time and craving for a smoke. Not to mention the inconvenience: the never-ending ritual of rolling up smokes, almost constantly for a chain smoker. Then there's the smell, the ugly, overflowing ashtrays...well, I could just go on forever here, but I'm just incredibly grateful to have found such a perfect solution to this problem that was costing me a fortune and my health so severely.

I really agree with this; vaping seems almost miraculous to me. Those other methods did indeed make me miserable; frantically chewing gum that tastes of ashtrays while desperately craving a smoke...the guy who invented the electronic cigarette was a genius!
