A good non-abrasive jewelry cleaner should remove the oxidation without scratching the metal. Scratches would encourage re-oxidation and re-cleaning....
After the first polishing - being certifiably lazy, I don't try.
Like Stosh alludes to in his post, oxidation begins again, almost immediately after cleaning and/or polishing... which is why I usea tiny dab of MG Silver "conductive" grease on "oxidize-able" contacts... and why it's useful enough IMO, to be part of my "big post O' links".
(The Vetco link is for specs... it's cheaper to buy from Amazon)
The best way to clean your contacts is simply to remove and polish them. I use Mother's Mag & Aluminum, but any decent metal polish will work. Yes, you will have to do this every once in a while, but there's no way to actually prevent the oxidation. I just find this easiest, and you'll be amazed how hard your mod will hit when the contacts are mirror shined!
