K....do I have to oxidize my kanthal prior to wrapping my coils or not? I've heard both yes and no. One person told me only SS mesh needs to be oxidized. Is this true?

I go over my wire with my mini torch, prior to wrapping. Not for the purpose of oxidizing it; but just to take the springiness out of it. For me, it just wraps better after I've heated it up a couple times.
^ The same here. Just to anneal the wire. It makes wrapping a coil much easier and a more uniform coil.
Okay, dumb question: I don't have a butane torch -- will a lighter get that job done?
I'm sure it will, just do it till it glows red... Make sure you use a plier and not your fingas... Yea, talking from experience.
