The positive contacts on my two AW 18650s have become depressed in the couple weeks I've been using them, progressively. When I first noticed it was, well, barely noticeable. Now it is more pronounced.

Two questions:
1. Do I have something set wrong in my P18 ... washers, O-Rings? I've also noticed the battery has a bit of play inside the device.
2. Is this development potentially hazardous?

There shouldn't be any play, the cap should tighten down so that the battery doesn't go back and forth. About the last 1/2 turn of the top cap you should feel it compress down the battery into the oring. A little depression of the battery top is normal, alot is not.

First, check to make sure there is the factory installed Oring in the bottom of the battery chamber. Have you changed or removed the Oring that came in the unit stock or has someone maybe changed or removed it (if you got it used)?. It should have one .100 oring in it. I include a .070 oring in the parts kit, but that often is too loose; verify it didn't get inadvertently installed in there. If you still feel something is off, i can certainly take a look at it and get it back to stock and working like a champ. Please send the unit and one of the offending batteries and i can take a look at it.

I have a AW 18650 battery that i have been using for testing for nearly a year now (it's been used to test fit and test fire the P18 for 100's of units now) and though the top of the battery has become a bit depressed in, it still doesn't rattle so i suspect something is up.

If you are just missing the O-ring, i can just send you one too.

So sorry I took so long to get back to you on this. It took some time for me to find the time to locate my missing O-rings.

Yes, I was running with zero rings in the P-18. I put one ring in and there was still some play in the battery. I put two rings in and it seemed that completely closing the top cap gave a considerable amount of compression resistance. But you tell me that's normal, so I won't be concerned about it. That is why I took the rings out initially. Obviously, I should have asked about it.

With only one ring the battery still has some play ... perhaps because of the depressed contact. Sorry again for the delay in responding. And thanks for your support!

NCC, if you removed the orings, it could be too, that since the battery was loose, it may have started denting the caps in more (especially if it was dropped, do to the slapping up and down). When i ship them, it is assembled with one .100 thick Oring and a single 18650 AW 2600mah should fit like a champ with no modifications. Are the two orings you have in their now the same thickness or different? If you are missing the .100 thick oring, i can send you out one no problem...

The two rings are different. No way to measure them. But, I'd assume they are the 0.10 and 0.07 you mentioned.
When I assembled with the thicker of the two, no play at all. So, now that I've publicly admitted that I'm clueless , I have to thank you again. I'm not normally this dense, I swear.

I'd just gotten back from 12 day's vacation when I originally posted, then took a few more days to unpack and get my act together.

I can get you out a fresh set of Orings oddword, including the one you are missing. Shoot me your address and name to: supertmanufacturing@yahoo.com. If you suspect something else is defective with your unit, i can also take a look at it myself, it has a lifetime warranty, so you are covered.

One thing that i have noticed can dent the big 18650 battery tops on PV's is when a PV is dropped, with the heavy battery inside the tube, it can compress the tops of the battery upon impact. It's not a problem on smaller batteried units like 14500's, 16340's etc as the batteries are lighter and the batteries don't have much inertia when you drop the unit. Since the Precise has very close tolerances, rather than a spring to take up the slop, you can get some play on a 18650 battery if the battery top gets dented in a lot.
