painting a mod?

Sorry if im posting in the wrong spot. But i have to ask. Here is my now sad s/b

I want to refinish it but i can not figure out what would b a some what durable paint. I have tried a few spay paints on some scrap aluminum and they all seem to chip right off. Are there any paints that would work or what are some other options of gettin it finished up.

Try some paint that's for aluminum you can get it almost anywhere,try walmart or a paint store .

Powdercoat or plati-dip would work. Anodizing it would work also. Although, not an expert here, I think you have to have it anodized while it is being made so possibly bunk on the Anodizing.

Didya use a primer first? The self-etching would be the way to go.

No. I can never seem to find a the primmers for the sprays, or the clear coats. I found a couple places that do powder coating withing an hour drive so i may just have to go to one and see what they charge and colors offered. Cant cost to much, i hope.

walmart Rust-Oleum-Self-Etching-Primer

Auto parts stores should have it also. Many folks paint/re-paint aluminum wheeels.

I used some engine paint on aluminum box mod I made once.... worked good. Scuffed the case alittle....sprsyed the paint on in 2 coats...then clear coated it.

As stated by Willy you need etching primer. Aluminum oxidizes instantly and you have to eat through that layer for anything to stick. Otherwise the oxide layer will separate and your paint will flake off.

the original paint on SB's is powder coating... I would go that route... plan on doing that with one of mine...

Thanks everyone. My local Walmarts didnt seem to have the primmer but i did find some at an auto store. Hopefully this weekend i will get it primmed and painted.

Digiman- i was thinking of just getting it powder coated by a shop thats not to far away, but if i dont like the paint job that i do i can always take it back to work and blasted clean again.
