I second the jealous thing. I have wanted a parrot my whole life. I grew up going to parrot jungle in miami florida with my aunt. She would take me when ever she was in town on the weekend, we would make a whole day of it. I loved those birds. I can remember ever since I was very young I have always said I wanted one and I have never lost that feeling for them.

But geesh why do they have to be so darn expensive...:)

African Greys can have a lot of 'attitude', so they're not for everyone. Wouldn't trade mine though. Unfortunately, she seems to view me as her 'mother-figure' (thanks, Ernest T !), but she considers my husband as a rival for my attention. So she occasionally gives him the 'stink-eye' and at certain times he has to give her a wide berth. But God, is she smart ! Super entertaining !

I so enjoy my birds. One is a mitred conure and the other is a bluestreaked lory. The lory never stops talking, even in the dead of night.

LOL. Not sure I'd like the constant chatter, but it's funny to think about.
I cover my birds' cages at night, and I get almost instant silence.

not too many parrot owners on this site apparently. as you can see mine are a bluefronted amazon and a solomon island eclectus hen [that's the red and blue one].

Your birds are lovely....I find parrot owners to be rather few & far between everywhere. It's nice to be able to talk to some fellow bird lovers here !

I love my birds, but there is most definitely a learning experience in raising them. They are nothing like taking care of a dog or cat.

Truer words were never spoken ! If more people understood that before purchasing one, I think there would be many less unwanted ones in the world.

I'm so jealous !

Jealous? Do ya wanna macaw? He just dumped his food bowl yet again today and my U2 keeps throwing his food all over the floor. He is hormonal this year, first time ever and he screams all the time. I have had most of my parrots since they were babies and handfed them all except for the senegal, macaw and amazon because they are rescues.

yes, I agree, people should never impulse buy a parrot. I don't see the larger parrots in pet stores around here anymore. You just about have to go through a breeder now which probably helps in impulse buying. I used to be terrified of birds but when I lived in Phoenix we saw parrots on almost every corner, lol! That's when we got our first bird then the "fever" hit. When my ex and I broke up he let me have the parrots and the kids :D Since I met my husband now we have added the SI eclectus, U2 and macaw. Actually got our U2 on our honeymoon!!

I have 1 African Grey and 4 cockateils. The African Gray I cannot handle. We got him as an adult and for some reason, he only likes women. The cockateils are hand raised. We got mommy bird, daddy bird, and thier son and daughter. We used to breed them but the wife made me take away thier breeder box. :(
