My daughter and I are the only ones that can handle our grey also. He literally hates men but he will walk over to my husband to get food, lol! Hubby just can't touch him but can give him a bite of food. I swear that bird will do anything for food :)

My Grey doesn't like to go to bed without a kiss from 'Daddy' first...unfortunately, he's also the one she prefers to bite. Ever had your lip pierced by a pointy beak ? You won't soon forget the experience.

Jealous? Do ya wanna macaw? He just dumped his food bowl yet again today and my U2 keeps throwing his food all over the floor. He is hormonal this year, first time ever and he screams all the time. I have had most of my parrots since they were babies and handfed them all except for the senegal, macaw and amazon because they are rescues.

yes, I agree, people should never impulse buy a parrot. I don't see the larger parrots in pet stores around here anymore. You just about have to go through a breeder now which probably helps in impulse buying. I used to be terrified of birds but when I lived in Phoenix we saw parrots on almost every corner, lol! That's when we got our first bird then the "fever" hit. When my ex and I broke up he let me have the parrots and the kids :D Since I met my husband now we have added the SI eclectus, U2 and macaw. Actually got our U2 on our honeymoon!!

But your Macaw is so cute ! Doesn't that make it all better ? (lol)
My Grey likes to pick up and throw her water bowl. Makes a nice, clangy sound !

I have 1 African Grey and 4 cockateils. The African Gray I cannot handle. We got him as an adult and for some reason, he only likes women. The cockateils are hand raised. We got mommy bird, daddy bird, and thier son and daughter. We used to breed them but the wife made me take away thier breeder box. :(

Your post made me realize that I forgot to mention my 3 cockatiels (Mom, Dad, daughter), and 12  lovebirds. Started with 2 lovebirds. They don't call 'em lovebirds for nothin' ! Took away their breeding box (finally). So much fun to have babies, though. I do miss it.

Hello Hello!

Just poking around the forums and found this thread!

I used to work with parrots (Breeding / rearing) loved every minute of it..

As far as my Ornithologically gifted family members, I have 2 Sun Conures, and 3 'Tiels

I've always wanted a Goffins Cockatoo, but most every 'too i've ever met has been nothing but a giant love bomb.

Just gotta remember not to wear black shirts ;)

Well, sometimes, lol! He has come to call me a "....". Really, I swear, I don't know where he got that from, My husband finally fixed the bowl problem, at least I hope. He took pliers and bent the bowl outwards to where you have to really push it in the wire holders. It has worked for my grey but I know that as powerful as the macaw is, he will eventually get it out.

Yeah, I have had a lot of body piercings 8-o My rescued senegal is a real pistol. She will call you over and ask for a kiss, of course I give her one and as soon as I present my lips to her beak she bites me. My fault, you would figure that I would learn my lesson after 10 years but I guess I am still hoping for a real kiss from her one day :D

My grey is not a cuddlebird and can get ...... off for no reason (that I can see). He will not only bite but hang on to whatever he has attached himself to, then let go of his feet and hang there. It is usually the skin between my thumb and forefinger. YEEEOUCH!! Can bring me to my knees!!

Awww, lovebirds are so cute! I have a peachfaced that I got when he was two weeks old back in 1992. He is my oldest. About 15 years ago I got him a mate, she was a beautiful pied. To my horror, I woke up one morning to check on them and she was at the bottom of the cage, eggbound and I lost her. I was so sad and mad at myself for not checking sooner. Although I really never got up in the middle of the night, I had no idea. I gave up on breeding after that. Just couldn't handle the heartbreak...

BTW, I just LOVE your avatar!!

I have an African Grey that I inherited from my mother, who inherted him from her cousin, who bought it from a pet store as an adult that who knows how many people owned. LOL He says "Hello" in an unknown mans voice, "PEANUT" in an unknown womans voice, calls "MARY" in my cousins husbands voice, laughs like my mom and says "EVIL BIRD" in my voice. I think his favorite drink is my blood :) I have worked w/him so he will get on my gloved hand. everyone else just stayed away from him because he was slicing fingers to the bone. poor bird

I'M RIGHT HERE
i don't have a parrot. i did have some parrotbay rum the other night.
i have 5 ferrets, it started with 1 , i found shivering on my porch 1 morning. i place fliers tried to find owner. but no luck. so then i decided she needed a play-mate. i googled and found a ferret rescue shelter and adopted one. of course it cost the same to adopt as it would to buy in a pet-shop. then the shelter contac me one day . a young couple moved to apartment and were going to be evicted if they did not get rid of their 3 ferrets. they did not want them to be seperated, because they were bonded. so we got them 3 for the price of 1. :D a month ago a little taco-bell dog came wandering on my porch. up go the fliers again, taco-bell still here. my 7 year old big fat black cat is not very pleased with all the company.
