I just got a Joye-510 and a pass-thru to go with. The 510's truly a mother compared to my getting-iffy DSE901 gear (which feels like a gym membership for my cheeks in comparison). Manual batteries are definitely where it's at.

Yet... this pass-thru. There's zero documentation with it; the little Engrish manual that came with it kind of mentions it in passing, but no real explanation, so I reason it must be plug 'n vape. I plug it into a USB port, and screw the battery end into the atomizer/cart. Press the switch; no power. I notice the empty black box built into the line, open it up, and see space for what looks like a AAA battery... so I stick a AAA battery in the box and close it. Press the switch; no power.

Does this require some bizarre battery I don't have, to go in the box? Or am I doing something obviously wrong? Or do I have a DOA pass-thru? I've realized I don't really understand how the thing is supposed to work, and the more "pass-thru" threads I search and read here, the more confused I get. Thanks in advance.

That box does hold a battery, but it is not a common AA battery, it is a ICR10440 battery. A battery should have came with the passthrough, at least mine did. I had to charge the passthrough in my USB port for a couple hours by plugging it in and letting it sit. I would contact whoever you purchased the passthrough from, and see why they did not send you a battery with it.

Enlightenment! Yes, I shall contact my vendor forthwith. Bless you!

So... you need to charge the passthrough for awhile before it'll work? Once I have obtained and charged the missing battery, can I just leave the passthrough plugged into my computer all the time and vape away? (In front of a monitor was where I historically chain-smoked.) I know there are other things that involve a Kensington whatchamacallit from Best Buy (I'll look that up later), but really, the above was all I was hoping to do.

Also, is your red Gummi bear dead or merely receiving treatment from a highly skilled team of Gummi acupuncturists? I've been wondering for awhile.

You can leave the passthrough plugged in all the time, that is what i do. The battery inside does hold a charge for awhile, meaning you can unplug it and contine to use it for awhile. Not sure how long, but mine has lasted for over an hour unplugged. You can buy a kensington power pack that will supply the passthrough with power for several days without the need for a usb from a computer. I havent went down that path though. Not yet ;)

Alas, the red gummi has succumbed to the wrath of the yellow ones. They were angered by his beauty :)

Ah! See, too much beauty just isn't all it's cracked up to be! I tell my mirror this more frequently with each passing year. It scoffs. Now your avatar has given me proof! Take that, mirror!

NOW I know what the mysterious gee-gaw from Electronics Heaven will do. ZOMG. Life was simpler, if stinkier, when I was just obsessing about when I could have another cigarette. Now there's a whole new hobby with cool paraphernalia to spend money on.

Thanks again... I went back to the product page for that pass-thru, and it looks like it was supposed to come with a battery but did not. I Googled ICR10440 and it doesn't look like something they carry at Chez Radio. Drat. But you sure as hell cleared up the big mystery. I am in your debt.

Haha. Yes, beauty does not always become an asset, or so I have gathered ;) If you are interested in the Kensington power pack, try checking ebay first. They can found cheaper than the best buy retail prices.
You are welcome, if you have any questions, PM me and I will help as much as I can. Anyone working with a 510 has got a very good workhorse in their hands. Aside from all the balancing, filling, charging, and etc., these e-cigs are miles beyond the stinky stubs we have spent so much money on. I was thinking, if these were not as time consuming as they are, I think something ould be lost in the transition from analogs. There is something to be said about learning this new "language" so to speak. Almost like it helps address the new system of vaping, while showing the lack luster of analogs.
Anyways, I hope they send you a battery soon, the passthrough is well worth it. :)

Thanks for starting this thread Shan and thanks to effigi for the awesome answers. I'm a complete newb (so new I don't even have my first e-cig yet, but they're coming) and it's a good thing I read this.

I wanted to try a couple of different models so I ordered a set of 510s with a PCC from one company and a 401 with passthrough from another company thinking that since the passthrough should arrive first I could open it and immediately have my first vaping experience while I wait for the 510s to arrive and then endure the long waiting hours for the first time charging of the 510s to finish.

Wonder how many analogs I'll end up smoking while I wait for the USB to charge up? Probably more than normal just from sheer excitement!

BTW, love the gummis! But I'll be a good girl and not steal them (or eat them).

Ha, I think the yellow gummis are ok to eat, them are outnumbering the red one anyways :D
It is possible that the passthrough has a charge when shipped, so maybe you can "plug n play". If not, analogs help to east the time until you can start your experiementation...

Green Gummis and Kiwi E-Juice! HEAVEN, I would imagine. I'll report
later,
Dave:cool:
