Passthough question

Ok, I may be missing something simple here, but whats the point of using a usb cable that thick? Isn't it kind of like hooking up a firehouse to the water spout on the side of my house? I understand the basic properties of electricity(or so I think) but this seems like overkill to me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about it, just think its odd and something slightly smaller and flexable might be a better choice.

I think it used to protect from wire breakage like the cheap ones do..

Just got mine and it's great...it is a little thick, yes. But after using a thinner PT for my 510 this will be a joy. The 510 PT lasted me only 2 weeks before I noticed it had started to fray at the connection points and I always felt that if I didn't remove it from the usb port gently, it would break in two. Is this PT a bit overkill? Maybe...but I don't think I'll have to buy another one for quite awhile and that's what I'm looking for.
