This question is really for the modders forum, however I can't post there yet. I have an RN4081 passthrough that had a short in the wire near the USB plug, so I cut the wire and the plastic LED cover. Since its designed to be hooked up to an energy source, would I be able to hook it up to a battery box, like kinda like a Nicostick? The passthrough is already manual so i don't think I would even need to add a manual button thing

Be careful how you setup the batts to get ~ 5v. Li Ion in series can have issues and with just 2, you'll be at either 7.4v or 6v to start with. You could wire up 3, nicad batts (that has been done).

Guess I'd suggest just getting another usb cable and wire it back up good as new.

NOTE: you could just go with a single, Li Ion batt but you might notice the change from the usb @ 5v

The reason why i cut the cable shorter is so that it can fit in a battery box, I checked the voltage online and its like 5v I think thats like the standard voltage for an RN4081. THanks for the help, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be blowing my money/myself up haha! If I'm correct I don't have to install a manual switch on the box itself?

Ok so I was experimenting with this mod today, i got a 9v battery and touched the wires of the passthrough to it, and it actually works :) however it was just a test and now on to my main question: Are alkaline batteries safe for this? I'm not sure if they're protected or not...

not likely alkaline batteries will have enough power......you'd probably have to replace batteries in less than an hour...
