I have bought two USB passthroughs for the 510 style. WHen they arrived they worked beautifully. THen suddenly both of them failed. I can't get any vapor. What did I do wrong? I have tried everything. I have tried other USB sources, I have tried cleaning them. I have tried putting a circuit tester on them. The battery tests at 4 v but I get nothing at the screw in terminal. I was using both of them at the same time on my laptop. I also would use them occassionally on their own battery power, that is to say not plugged into a USB. This seemed OK but now I wonder if this helped mess them up...Help!!
Thanks

Sometimes when the battery is run too low, it kicks in a circut that will not allow it to recharge, even though the battery itself is actually fine. I don't know if this is the case or not, but it has been a problem for me in the past. Replacing the battery fixed it. It made me crazy until I found a small post on it somewhere in the vast depths of the forum. Another thing it might be is the wires tend to break right where they enter what would be the battery if it wasn't a PT. Hope this helps, and that others might chime in with more knowledge.

IF they are autos could be that juice got in the sensor. That will mess them up with a quickness. If they are manual switches i would say the switches went out since you have voltage at the battery but not the connector. But those are just guesses without having them in front of me to test them out couldn't say for sure. Really the battery should also be tested under load to see what the voltage is then. How old are these PT's ? The batteries only last so long in them.

Try different USB ports if you have them - it could be the power is too low to charge up the battery.
If they are in-line battery PT the battery itself (the one 'in-line' in the little box) may have died. My last one the battery died not long after I got it - and it was replaced for me by the vendor (as it was within a week of sale) - I also bought a spare battery lol.

I remember reading a post a couple of months ago about this type of problem. It seemed that if the battery gets too low it is hard to get it going again. The solution then was to remove the battery then put it back in while the PT was plugged in and on. Somehow this reset the circuit(?) I don't know if that'll help but it's worth a try.

Wow! Lots of great replies. I believe I made a serious error when I used the passthrough without having it plugged in. THis ran down the battery. I still can't get either of them to work.
I was worried that something was wrong with my laptop USB until I tested other items in the USB chain and they all seem fine. I believe it must have something to do with low voltage shutting them down.
THe question is how do I reset them?

If you've completely drained the battery it won't recharge....something about the programming within a li-ion battery. An old trick is to "reset" it by using a 9v. Connect the 9v to your battery like this: + to + and - to -
Wait 30s to a minute and disconnect.....then it will accept a charge. Can't guarantee that's your solution; just saying it's worked for me.

do you use 2 9vs for this? I'm not undestanding. I have some batteries that need resetting!
