Here's the story. I was using PureSmoker Ace (KR808D) carts, a USB passthrough from Vapor4Life, some cheap DC->USB adapter from Walmart, and chocolate mint liquid from VaporBomb. The cart lasted fine on the drive to work, and fine for a smoke break or two. Afterwards, I got this horrible burnt taste. Absolutely awful. Much worse than when a cart goes dry. It was so awful I assumed the cart was defective (something burning inside maybe?) and trashed it.
I opened another unused cart (coincidentally from an entirely different pack of 5) and filled with chocolate mint again. The exact same thing happened -- fine at first, nasty before long. God awful burnt taste. I don't see how the liquid would cause this (though it was an unusual liquid; much thicker than any other I'd used), but I don't see how two carts from entirely different packages were defective in the same way when I've used 70+ carts from that same order without problem.
Fast-forward a few weeks. I ordered several small bottles of liquid and 50 more carts from PureSmoker. The carts aren't even quite the same; these have no o-ring inside and the plug is smaller. I load up several carts, including one with their Carolina flavor. Once again, the exact same thing happened. It didn't even last the drive to work before I replaced it with a 'ccino cart. I got the same burnt taste again, but I'm not 100% sure if it was the cart or just the nastiness lingering on my taste buds.
Completely different liquids, completely different carts, same result. This leads me to believe the problem lies in the passthrough or even the DC-USB converter. It's not rated for 1.2 amps, but it was the only one I could find at 1am when my old one stopped working. Would this have anything to do with what I'm tasting?
I also switched passthroughs sometime near when this started. The one I was using started cutting in and out (though in retrospect it was more likely the failing converter), so I opened up a new one. Maybe the passthrough is defective? I also noted that when I pulled off the Carolina cart some vapor escaped from between the passthrough and the cart. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything.
I'm going to try to find the old passthrough and order a good converter (which I should have done by now anyway). Also note that I've smoked several other flavors in several other carts with this same passthrough and converter with no problem.
Any ideas on exactly what's going on here? Thanks in advance.
