Do I have to take out the rechargeable batteries before I use the passthrough for the Janty Stick or other mods?

No you have to keep them in primarily. (there's ways around that.... depending on what you're hooked up to. )

Yes. It's like having a laptop, cell phone, iPod, etc. hooked up to AC - you can use it but it's keeping the battery charged as well. Once it's charged - and all but one I have came charged already from the vendor - you can unplug it and walk around - cord dangling ;-) but it works if you happen to find the need to unplug and keep using. I've had those 'cheap one's from China' for 4 months now. The only thing I've changed is from JD's post a while back - I took the one I had in the computer and hooked it up to a 1amp wall plug. That way no computer problem and it works better. Not sure what the amp rating was on the computer hook up. Some of my monitor usb outlets wouldn't run it at all.
