I just went through this today.

Soaked in ever clear. Still had some flavor.

Then I mixed vinegar, lemon juice and added baking soda to hot water and put all the pieces in.

Worked remarkably well with one exception. The orings still had a little flavor. I am guessing replacing them would make it perfect, but it is good enough for now.

I think you just wanted to watch the reaction when you poured vinegar on baking soda.

Just don't put your Penelope in a container of water and drop in potassium. There's no coming back from that.

Mix the everclear with hawaiian punch and drink it. It won't make the coffee taste go away but after the third one, you won't care. ;)
