I think a lot of vapers have a sort of "revenge mentality" that winds up doing us far more harm than good in terms of trying to gain public acceptability and overcome the moral panic. When they smoked cigarettes, they were so resentful of being socially ostracized and shunted outside like lepers that, now that they vape instead, they seem hell-bent on doing it anywhere they want, any time they want, in close proximity to as many people as possible.

I don't think it's ANTZy of me to say no one needs to vape at a school play or sporting event. I mean seriously. But more and more, I see people vaping at times and places where it almost seems like they're trying to instigate a confrontation by being as obnoxious about it as possible. I wish these idiots would stop to think how badly they're rudeness reflects on all the rest of us and ......s our efforts to gain fair treatment for vaping and vapers.

The store owner that sold me my e-cig told me to go vape inside Walmart to fight for my rights. I told him I wasn't going to be that ..........

I get your OP. Ignore the nit-pickers who will be quick additions to "OUTSIDE." Yes, you're right... a bad apple spoils the barrel. I haven't seen it personally but certainly have heard about it here. They're the same kind that threw their butts everywhere after bans when they never did that before.

The bans required people to throw their butts everywhere. I don't know of any store that had a circle of ashtrays 15' from every entrance or window around here. Those that had ashtrays had them closer than the law allowed the smoker to be.
It was a law the ANTZ made either without thinking it through or they intentionally made so they'd have something else to complain about until they push all smokers into the sea (at which point they'll cry about the poisoning of the water because of those dirty smokers having the nerve to drown).
They also complain about smokers walking down the middle of the street because that's the only way to get 15' away from entry ways downtown.

Guess what, if you push to remove ashtrays from vehicles you're not going to stop people from smoking, you will cause them to toss their butts outside. If they didn't know this they don't deserve to be involved in making public policy.

My tinfoil hat comes on when I noticed all the butts by the road now that people complain about it. I never noticed that when I was younger (and walking everywhere) and people had the habit of emptying ashtrays at stoplights and stop signs. Kind of odd with fewer smokers and everyone having more of a green mentality that there's more trash of all kinds along side of the roads.

Ah, well, it's the same with everything, n'est-ce pas? For everything I am involved with, care about or participate in, there are some fellow participants who make it look bad with their gormlessness (or worse, sometimes much worse), and I'm like, "gee, I really wish you weren't on my side!" But, hey, human social systems -- what're you gonna do?

I just keep on keeping on doing what I do, in the nice, reasonable, considerate way I normally do it. I'm not responsible for every angry young ignoramus who wants to grab attention by kicking sand in everyone's face.

And you're humble too, just like me:)

Well, it seems to me as though the legislators are successfully making it so you cannot smoke OR vape inside...........regardless if it is rude in certain circumstances or not. Then you will have jaded, revenge driven vapers too.

The reality is that we live in a world where everyone has the right to complain about everything..........whether it is vaping or not. If you have a restaurant full of people and one person complains about the lights being too dim, the lights are going up. I wish we lived in a country where people just minded their own business but we don't. I also see people complain because they are vilified for something they do but then turn around and complain about something someone else is doing. Welcome to Murica!

Yup.
I once vacationed in Mallorca, Spain. The beach walkway was spotlessly clean. Why? There was a garbage can with an ashtray on top attached to each and every lamp post.
If you give people a place to put their garbage, they will gladly use it. However, if you take those places away, well, what to do with your garbage? Especially if you are annoyed at having no place for your garbage in the first place....

o_O This is my experience in germany aswell. Atleast were i was. There was ashtrays everywhere. Unlike in sweden were you have to search for them... When you've finally found it you've lost 10 minutes of your life ^^ (So most people toss em on the ground)

It's one obnoxious vaper's fault because you couldn't take 2 seconds to email your local/state/federal politician and tell him/her to mind their own business? Tell them to quit making laws that take our personal decisions away from us, away from small business owners, away from parents on who to raise their own children? All because one obnoxious vaper took a draw during a kid's spelling bee? I remember people drinking out of flasks and brown paper bags at almost every school event I ever attended. How is that any better/worse than vaping in public?

We let the ANTZ push us outside. Then we let them push us 15-25-50 feet away from the entrance. Then we let them push us completely off the property and now they are pushing us out of parks and beaches and even our own homes. If vaping equals smoking and you can't smoke in your own freaking apartment, do you really think they are going to let you vape? Illinois is even making it a crime to smoke in your own freaking car if there is also a child in the car.

We have got to stand up for ourselves! What if the politicians take it into their heads to start slapping an extra tax on candy? Oh, wait--they already have! What about those toys in Happy Meals? Oh, that's right--some town in California tried that. Large sodas--been there. If you give an inch--they will take a mile and then the entire country. How is hiding under a rock going to stop them?

lol let me reiterate this a little so it's not misunderstood..... I just don't like blowing a cloud out that is going to just immediately let someone walk right through it because I generally think it's rude imo like open mouth sneezing LMFAOOO

I agree. Granted I do vape pretty much everywhere at home, and in work. I don't walk around walmart and vape, and I don't do it at the movie theater because I personally think that big poofy clouds blown around would be annoying lol. Some people depending on what you're vaping don't like the smell. My girlfriend dislikes the smell for the most part, but generally it's no an annoyance unless I'm making clouds.
"ruin it for the rest of us" is a term I've actually used in relation to a coworker that has a desk in a different dept than mine, with 5 other people in a 10x10 room and he vapes, and vapes. I walk back there and it's a little foggy and I just keep thinking oh lord.... the owner is gonna walk back here one day and put a cease to this altogether straight across the board. Turning on a fan works wonders lol...

Since there are little to no limitations on where our devices can be used, a little common sense and respect for those immediately around you goes a long way as well.

Yeah...these things are like cockroaches.

I have been well, I hope you are, too.

I don't think the ECF would be the Same with out an Obligatory Provari vs ___________ Thread. A Which RBA is Best Thread. And a Vaper's giving Vapers a Bad Name Thread.

It's kinda become the Holy Triad of Forum life Lately.

I read this whole thread and was going to say pretty much exactly this, only you beat me to it. Well said. ;)

I've never experienced or seen any of what's been described in the initial post. Granted, I have no kids, so I probably shouldn't be spending my time at school spelling bees anyways.

Personally, I vape at home (also my workplace), in my car, and at friend's houses who are cool with it. I don't do it when I go out to eat, go shopping, or really anywhere else where I don't want unneeded attention. I can wait 45 minutes until I'm done shopping to vape. To me it's not so much about "rights" as it is common courtesy and a sincere desire to not have to explain why I'm "smoking" something that looks like a cross between a lightsaber and a cylon to someone I'd otherwise have no desire to have a conversation with anyways.
