I read a number of posts that reference like 80/20 but it doesn't say what the 80 or 20 is. Am I just missing some "standard" that VG comes first or PG comes first?
IMO, with DIY, spelling everything out is the way to go. And if you read something that leaves you wondering, ask for clarification before mixing, if possible.
It used to be standard to say PG first in the ratio. It sort of drives me crazy that it seems to be shifting to the opposite being standard, now that more people are into high VG. Like everyone else said, you just can't assume anything anymore.
Nowadays, I see VG usually listed first as more people tend to side with a higher VG than PG. I would find a ratio that you prefer and just do your mixes that way. I don't pay too much attention to that percentage when I see people's recipes other than to know if I need to cut down or increase my flavoring percentages. (higher VG tends to need higher flavoring)
I have a PG sensitivity so I need to do a 70/30 blend (vg/pg) or higher. When I drip, I do 80/20 or higher.

I agree... I don't pay attention to what ratio people recommend in a recipe. I just stick with my 70/30 (pg/vg). Still, it annoys me for some reason that we already had a standard way of saying it, and people suddenly decided to switch it.

Me too. I still use the pg/vg order, and I know that order so I don't have to write "pg/vg" after the ratio on my labels. I guess I'll have to make sure I specify when posting on this forum if that's no longer the convention and there isn't really a consensus anymore.
