Really new to DIY e-liquid and so, I had a quick question that I wanted to ask. Just wanted to know what's the average percentage of flavoring people add to their juices. Mixed up my first batch at 30% but, it doesn't taste quite right to me but, that might be due to me just mixing it fresh.

Oh, wanted to ask another question too. How long do you steep your juices before using them? Does putting the bottle in hot water actually help increase this process?

Thanks

It depends on the flavoring company washvap and if you are using 100 VG or what ratio in your vape. 30% is high unless you vape all VG in almost any brand. Sometimes too much flavor equals no flavor but yes it needs to steep overnight at least. You will know the real flavor after several days to a week as in some it will increase in others it will lessen. Good luck this is a step by step learning curve. What flavor did you make?

Flavor percentage is personal to everyone but I mix most Tobacco's at 2% with some at a half of a percent. Some here mix some flavors up to 15% even 20% but you would half to have watered up or weak concentrait to go as high as 30%.

Most flavors can steep in a week and be good but most Tobacco's take two weeks so this also depends on what your mixing. Hot water helps boost the steep process but to get a true steep you need time and two weeks is common!

Hope that helps some and if you can tell us what your mixing and the brand we can help from there...Good Luck!

Wash, I do some at the 30 mark, Desert types,,,, let it sit for two days, I actually do warm mine up when I mix, I mix all my VG+Flavorings together and put in the nuker for 15 seconds ONLY to mend it together,,,and in a glass bottle of course,,, then shake it for a bit, stick in freezer for 10min take out once back to room temp I add my Nic. I've been finding this to work very well,,,,, some others are doing the same,,,,, takes out the steeping time a bit too. :2cool:

Tobaccos & Coffee's = lowest %'s I find,, I start with 2% on tobaccos and when I add coffee flavorings I do it by the drop, just me though and how I do it,, a

Fruits and other I start out at 15% usually

You will find what works for you the more you DIY, and what works for you is whats right, there is no perfect way, taste is way to different for each person to have only one way to mix or a certain percentage for each flavor. Once our at it for a bit you will get some good recipes and then start mixing more flavors to. I just made a Strawberry Cupcake with vanilla icing on top with a couple drops of Horchata, 2% EM,, man is this a good one.

Thanks a lot for the info mwa. The one I just mixed is FlavorArts Butterscotch. So, I'm hoping that's ok for now. Will definitely let it sit for a couple of days before testing it again. Will try and perform the method that you have described. I'm only starting out with glass bottles for now. Good to hear that it reduces some of the steeping time.

I normally have a lot of patience waiting for pre-mixed juices to steep. But, for some reason I'm finding it pretty hard to wait for the one I made for myself. Have to remember to keep my tobacco % low since I got one from FlavorArt too. It's called Maxx Mix and I hope it's pretty good. Probably will try that out in a few days at 2% and see how that goes.

Thanks again for the tip. I appreciate it.

I agree with your other resposes that 30% is probably high. I end up anywhere between 7% and 15% flavor depending on the mix/ brand of flavors. I don't see a benefit from hot water and I don't recomend it with plastic bottles. You will still have to wait AT LEAST 24 hours to get even a close idea of what it turned out to be :) I agree the tobaccos take a lot longer for the flavors to "marry" in the bottle. Good luck with it, it really is an adventure!!

For this particular flavor. I'm using FlavorArt and the others that are coming are Capellas. Like all my mixes to be either 80/20 or 70/30. Guess I went overboard with the flavoring. Wanted something that was strong but, had no idea that can lead to no flavor. So, I'll have to remember that. I'm sure I'll get it down sooner or later. I actually made some butterscotch.

Second part of your question I don't feel the hot water steep makes any difference in a tobacco mix- its still a week. People have varying opinions on that with the other flavors.

Thanks, I kind of figured but I had hope on my side LOL Anyways, thanks for the quick response and appreciate the tips.

Have to keep those two percentages in mind when I'm mixing my other dessert type flavors. Only using the glass bottles I saved when I was buying juice. Won't be using plastic bottles for DIY e-liquid. Actually trying to find some green glass bottles right now.

Thank you very much for the support and info. I appreciate it.

There is a calculator out there for combining liquids I use all the time with oops bottles. You can figure out how to cut it back pretty easily if needed. I think with Flavour Art start low on all- 2 to 10 percent. Capella's it depends on flavor most say 10-20% depending on the flavor. Some will be lower than that.

No worries we all are learning and like mentioned before our opinions will vary. I find it very hard to wait for my juice to bloom too sometimes. :)

Capella has gotten pretty good as of late been using a good bit of it, though I find have some of all of these different flavoring companies flavors on hand is good. I'm usually around 20-22% on most of my mixes but sometimes I find I need to tweak something here and there that raises it at the end to make it just right. 30% is rare but it does happen at times with some of my desert flavor juices plus I use All VG accept for the flavorings that are PG or Alcohol based so my mixes are always pretty thick.

Natures flavors has some god butterscotch, and a few others too, ya gotta weed through there flavorings but they have some good ones too

I mix most of my juice at 12% but that's usually a combination of 2 or more flavors, I don't really care for FA butterscotch on it's own but I think it's good with FA cookie. I use a hot water bath just to thin the juice so I can give it a good mix I use mostly if not all vg

Thats how I use the Butterscotch too-- with the Cookie and a sweetener or as a smaller note on a tobacco vape. I do 80/20 PG VG or 70/30 and I use the Cookie alot...I am addicted to it lately had to buy the big bottle.

That's exactly the one I used too. Chose the adjusting PG/VG % calculator they have on there. Going to try it after a few days and if it's something that I don't like then I'm reducing it. Good to know which percentages are best for brands of flavoring.

Thanks again for your support. I'm sure when I get used to DIY then I'll be having preferences of my own. For now, I'll be enjoying the journey and trying a lot of different flavorings and brand out.

That would be a great idea and if I want to mix it with something else. Then it would be a lot easier this way. Thanks for the suggestion. Really never expected myself to get into DIY e-liquid but, it's been really fun so far. Hoping to save a few bucks along the way too. Also, another good thing I noticed is all of the vendors that I have tried thus far has excepted PayPal! Always was a problem when I was ordering pre-mixed juices.

Feel a lot more comfortable now with DIY since you and others on here have been so helpful. Didn't have a clue at all besides using the e-liquid calculator and hoping for the best. At least I have a good idea now on how much flavoring to use and steeping time. Want to try the cookie ASAP and will be ordering more flavors soon. Maybe more nic, pg, and vg too since I only ordered 120ml to start out. Anyways, it's fun to see me excited too  LOL I'm just joking. Thanks again.

You're right. FA's Butterscotch is useful as a spice, an additional, and a standalone. FA's Cookie is one I find more useful for adding something to other flavors too. Both hold a position close to the front of my flavorings drawers.

Not meaning to come off as a pompus SOB, but you may want to read my blogs. It reinforces much of what you have already learned and may give you some hints as you continue.

Welcome to DIY washvap and don't forget to have the club patch sewn below the left pocket of your lab coat.

Flavor is very subjective to each person for sure. I would always recommend starting low in flavor and build up. Its so much easier to add than trying to thin it out. I made a habit of making small batches 5mil of each flavor. Just to know what each one tastes like. Some you wont use as a stand alone that much your finding out now. Its a total learning process and finding out what works for you. Warning though DIY can get quite addicting trying to find new ways and new things to create with but its so much fun and still cheaper than buying your juice. Next you will be looking for EM, sucralose and other things to accent your flavors! Plus everyone here is very helpful. Welcome to the club!

Hoosier still waiting for my patch :toast:
