Good morning all!

I was waiting for my spring replacement in the mail after my first spring collapsed. It arrived yesterday. Upon replacing the old spring, I noticed an immediate downgrade in performance. I worked on it for a bit last night, cleaning the contacts and the like. With no improvement, I got frustrated and went to bed. Here I am today, at work, with no tools to fix the problem. I'd like to identify the source of this mishap before I get off so that I have a goal when I get home. Thoughts?

Note: I was using a magnet on the negative side of the battery to make up for the collapsed spring prior to its replacement.

File or sand the tip of the firing pin and add a little (just a little) Noalox. Sand the top and bottom of your battery to clean off any oxidation and add a smidgeon of Noalox. Just a real thin layer...too much will make things worse.

See if that helps. If not it could be your 510 connection got too hot in which case you'd need to send it to Rob for repair (I think).

The magnet will give you a drop in performance

Correct. I switched the spring and no longer need the magnet, so I was expecting a performance upgrade as opposed to the alternative. Also, I filed my firing pin, and all my [new] batteries are performing equally poorly. Still at a loss. Perhaps I need to rebuild my RM2? Maybe my coils got messed up as I was changing out the spring.

Make sure you've cleaned under the spring and that it has good contact with the body.

I didn't know that was necessary! I would bet money that's the problem. I was having trouble catching the spring with the screw and after a few minutes just said to myself, "This is good enough." Gonna go home and take the whole thing apart, put a little time into a proper screw down.

I think I heard some people were applying NOALOX under the spring as well? It couldn't hurt anything.

If you are going to take the spring off again put some noalox inside the hole's area on the body of the Reo or on the bottom of the head of the screw. Thats where the screw and body make contact to give a ground and its where there is no paint. You also might want to check screw tightness on your attys posts. IF that doesnt work perhaps a new coil. Did you meter your batteries coming off the charger?

I put a dab on Noalox on the top of my battery every time I change batteries. Haven't had to file for a couple of months. The firing pin will touch the battery and the Noalox keeps the contact point in a low to no oxygen atmosphere thus no arcing or sparking and no oxidation of the pin. Nothing to file off.

Clarified that I meant don't apply to much under the spring plate and thus reduce the contact.

Hey everyone.

Still having pretty severe problems. Haven't tried Noalox under the spring yet, gonna do that now.

Updates coming soon.

Also, I noticed that I filed the little point off of the end of the positive contact. Is this a problem? I've read of others doing it so I didn't think too much of it, but I wonder if this is playing a role.

Are you using one of those protected batteries ? If so with a low ohm coil you could be kicking the protection on and losing voltage. Flat tops are not the best for your Reo as well it's designed to use aw imr button top batts.

I am using the batteries recommended on the website.

It's gotten worse.
