Liquid nicotine comes in either a VG or PG base... if your target ratio is 70/30 VG/PG, then it would be best to purchase VG based nicotine and a bottle of PG.

There's a few few good e-juice calculators available free for computers or smart phones... with those you can enter your base nicotine level and then your desired nicotine level, VG/PG ratio and amount of flavors for any giving recipe. The calculator will tell you how much of each to add to reach the desired mix.

Check the DIY sub-forum under the e-juice forum... tons of helpful threads to get you started.

I've been DIYing for a few months now. I hadn't been overly concerned with PG/VG ratios (I was more into getting a flavor mix that worked for me) so I had 50/50 base and 50/50 nic. I've since revamped my philosophy and I'm using VG-based nic. I'm also changing the rest of my base so I'll end up with 25p/75v. With 20% flavorings, I'll land about 40p/60v. I mix at 0 nic and add a couple drops of nic in a tank, depending on what I want, so in reality, I'll be closer to 35p/65v or 30p/70v when all said and done.

To help with the math:

Your entire liquid volume is 100%, so if you figure in the neighborhood of 20% total flavorings (e.g. the Tiger's blood recipe I use is 7.5% Watermelon, 7.5% Strawberry, and 2.5% Coconut - that's 17.5% total liquid volume) and flavorings are mostly PG-based, you only have room for 12.5% unflavored PG to make up the rest of the 30% TOTAL PG volume. The rest depends on what nic level you're trying to achieve and what your nic base is. Let's assume your target is 18mg, and you have 36mg VG nic

PG - Strawberry - 7.5%
PG - Watermelon - 7.5%
PG - Coconut - 2.5%

Subtotal PG flavors - 17.5%
Unflavored PG - 12.5%

Total PG - 30%

You want a total nic level of 18mg/ml from a 36mg/ml base, you need 50% of TOTAL volume to be nic

Total VG Nic 50%

You're up to 80% total volume, so you need 20% unflavored VG to make the balance.

Long ramblings summarized:

PG-based flavorings - 17.5%
Unflavored PG - 12.5%
36mg/ml VG nic - 50%
Unflavored VG - 20%

Should yield a 30p/70v 18mg/ml juice.

ETA - the calculators are great - I'm just a geek and like doing the math in my head :D

Thabk you for all the responses especially the last one im understanding the thing im a little unsure of is if I ordered a bottle of 100mg VG based nic im going to have to add VG by itself to balance it out if I want 6mg nic and 70/30 mix rite? VG/PG. Can anyone give me and example and if they have a good ejuice calculator that will have vg based nic on it.. thank you
