Purity of PG, VG and PEG - The Short Version

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick.

=========

I normally use 50/50. Gives me a good balance of flavor & vapor.

I'm with TheGreatApe here! I don't so much like the "throat hit", I enjoy the flavor more! I started at 50/50 w/ 12mg but that was too throaty. Tried 70VG/30PG 12mg and that was a little bit throaty too, but not too bad. Then I got my Sigelei 100W box mod and Kanger Subtank mini and that made a world of Difference!! The 70/30 is perfect and I use 3mg with my new Tugboat drip atomizer. Am thinking when I make my own juice here pretty soon of trying an 80/20 at 1.5 mg.

but experiment and see what you like!!

I'm not sure I could tell much difference between 50/50 and 70p/30v. I DIY and I was actually ending up more at 60p/40v, but I've started adding more VG to my base. I am getting a slightly denser cloud, but I still get great flavor (my mixes are at least 20% flavorings) even with the higher VG.

It's all about what you like. So +1 to Das Auto and to Tim :)

Enjoy!

I'll be the contrarian here! My preferred ratio is 70PG/30VG. I never worry about wicking issues, there's plenty of vapor (for me) at 30% VG (not interested in having to purchase a fog horn along with other gear), I find PG carries flavor better than VG and if I vape high VG juices, after a bit I feel kind of "heavy and greasy" in my mouth, throat and chest. And yes, I'm probably in the minority; I am so far on this thread! :p

Oh, and I vape a lot of unflavored. Too much VG and the juice really isn't as unflavored anymore as VG carries a noticeably sweeter taste than PG (again, that's been my experience).

It really matters what type of tank/mod you're using with each. The high VG liquids are thicker and don't vape as well when you aren't using a subtank with it. The subtank won't work with the beginner mods. The high VG are also a little sweeter than the 50/50 blend. I am using a Manhattan mechanical mod with the Atlantis subtank and only use High VG liquids with it. My personal two favorites are Mother's Milk (a strawberry custard) by Suicide Bunny and Milk & Honey by Cosmic Fog (a custard). You can get both of these from Giant Vapes site.

I'm with you, and usually do 70pg I need the throat hit, that's why I smoked, and that's why I vape. I use a nautilus 2nd to largest airhole right now at 11 watts. Been experimenting with that somewhat though. I may change this when I start dropping my nic. Don't like to drip, but have finally decided to get a Reo as soon as I can. I do 24mg nic now, but won't be able to do that on a Reo.

A really good way to find out which pg/vg and nic level you like is to do some basic DIY, using unflavored. It's easier too if you already know your nic preference. You can buy small amts of nic in either pg or vg in the nic strength you want, and then just play with adding more or less vg. A resident chemist here says that nic mixes easier in pg than vg, so he recommends getting nic in pg base. You can easily experiment very inexpensively if you should take a notion to do that. Then you could learn about mixing flavors, or just buy already made juice, but at least you'd know the pg/vg ratio you like without spending a ton on premade juices.
