Alright, I've started some DIY and have made a few decent and vapable juices. But my problem is tanks.

As a heavy user of Backwoods Brew juices, I've had only BWB juices in my tanks up to this point. All of these juices are 70/30 PG/VG. I don't have any of the malty or malty toffee. Don advertises these are all 70/30.

So following what worked, last night I mixed up a batch of 70/30 juice and put it in a tank 3.5 ml tank. It wouldn't wick. I kept priming and priming and finally was able to get a bit of vape out of it, but not much. Then it all started tasting burnt and I realized I had fried the carto.

I'm using flanged, pre-punched cartomizers with one hole. If the BWB juice is going through at 70/30 with no problem, what am I doing wrong here?

I guess I should also mention that the tanks I had been using before were the 5ml versions and last night was the first time I had tried the smaller, 3.5ml version.

Should I go down to 80/20?

I do not use tanks alot but when I have used them, I have noticed that some flavor extracts are just slightly thicker than others so that even if some juices are at 70/30 and work great, there might be another 70/30 flavor that is slightly thicker depending on what flavor it is so you may need to do 80/20. When I make juice for tanks I automatically make them 80/20 just in case.

I think it may have to do with additives too (such as water for example - would thin the vg), also some vendors may use something that adds to help wicking (alcohol comes to mind) - not sure as this stuff is usually secret - but in ones that have been analyzed, there are wierd additives (not saying this vendor in particular, just overall speaking). I know i wasnt much help. i cant imagine such a low percentage of vg not wicking - alot of people use all VG and tanks. Ive gotten alot better with thinning down my VG. PGA really thins it out but i dont like using it b/c so many flavorings are already loaded with alcohol as it is, so i started using just distilled water. As long as your calculating that as your PGA in the diy calculator, it wont mess with your nic levels etc.

I've had that problem a few times with my liquids. I didn't start using DCTs until after I started DIYing though, so I don't have any experience with it and purchased liquids.

That said, I haven't had that particular issue since I started priming my cartos. I fill them from the top, with a bit of a thermometer shake before attaching them to the tank. Also, give them a bit of a test run before I load up the tank and get all the stuff in it.

Maybe this will help? It's a pretty quick method, and it doesn't feel like you wasted a bunch of liquid, if the carto is shot.

This is one reason why I make tanks out of 6ml plastic bottles instead of using the acrylic ones. With a fresh carto all I have to do is plug the battery end of the carto with my thumb and squonk the tank five or six times to prime the carto, then top off the tank and away I go.

The other reason is I can replace the carto in a full tank without spilling a drop of joose :D

Here's the video on how to make one - I do a couple of things differently than Kenny does but I've had pretty great success with these things -

Attached the picture I've attached way too many times once again :D

I always fill the DC cartos from the top, then fill the tank, and then do light quick pulls from the mouthpiece to pull juice into the bottom. You will see bubbles come up as you replace the air with your eliquid. I usually do 20-30 pulls until the bubbles are not so quick to pop up. I can tell you it shouldnt be your juice causing the problem as I vape 40PG/60VG on all my juices in the tank. Hope this helps!

I have no idea where I'm at
I use tanks, and I am usually making a 95%VG mix, but sometimes will increase the DW and knock it down to 90%. I haven't had any problem with either the CE2, ego-c, DCT, but did have to add a bit more DW for the vision/stardust with the shorter wick. Otherwise, no problem, then again, my liquids are pretty light and not dark or very sweet, which could effect wicking in a higher VG mix.
