1994 was when I first started working in ERs, and worked 10am to 10pm ..... had problems going to sleep right away, and alot of times I would just stay up. At first they called it "Shift Worker Syndrome".
For me, and this has always been true, I have to have a good full hard sleep, or I feel worse. Hubby can take "combat naps" for 30 mins to 1 hr, but it takes me a long time just to fall asleep, and if I don't get at least 6 hrs, I feel awful, so alot of times it's just easier to stay up, and crash the next night.
I don't numb up, or sedate well either ... don't know if it's related. People have mentioned that's common with redheads. (I think my hair is brown, auburn at the most! LOL)
