That is a hugely worthy cause... and I do like the way you think. However I do not want people to feel left out or put upon to ask others to assist them.

That being said... I suggest anyone who is able donate blood!

And this is a perfect segway to mention that in a very short time we are going to be taking donations for the 60 mile breast cancer walk soon. There will be two options on the site to donate, you can either add $1 or more to any order or you can click on a link on our site and go directly to the breast cancer website to donate.

I like the valentines type suggestions the most, since the contest will be running during that time of the season but some of them may need some fine tuning to work for everyone.

I can't donate blood either........but you can, probably..........even as a european who was exposed to mad cow disease (LOL) The fact you are O neg means they will go through extra steps to ensure your blood is safe. But most donation banks may not be aware of it, they may have a some rule where they refuse you and send you to a hospital, and the individual who said no to you didn't know. You are probably better off going to a hospital if you would like to donate, they have a higher demand, and are often in the need for whole blood not just plasma.

I actually have friends who are on emergency call lists to give transfusions because they are universal donors.

You are all correct - it probably was to much to ask of people, especially given what I am reading . . . Guess that is why it was my second entry (and propably why more than 1 suggestion wasn't allowed anyway ;) Joking here) and why I stand a better chance with my first entry to hopefully win this part of the contest anyway

BTW: Great one for the "Breast Cancer Walk" . . . I "like" Your thinking too :D

It really wasn't a bad idea in and of itself to ask everybody to donate. Everyone should do their part where and when they can to help out. But the reality is, the point of any contest is to have, to spread the word about a product and drum up interest. While I love your idea, I'm just not sure the masses will. And then how do you pick a cause that will get such a large community involved. Giving blood (while extremely important) makes some people uncomfortable. It would be similar to (well not really but kind of) asking everybody who is an organ donor to scan their drivers license to be in the contest. Again, IMHO I think everyone should be a donor but who I am to push my causes on others.

I could enter the organ donor one but I haven't donated blood since high school blood drives.

I still think a facebook likes contest should be done to spread the word of the website, maybe with just a few cartomizers as the prize.

Honestly I don't even think this suggestion contest should have had such an expensive item as it's prize but since you could have likely thought up a good idea for a contest on your own, I know your pretty much running this one out of the kindness of you heart. (Or because we all kept bugging you about the next contest lol)

I did think up a contest all on my own... THIS ONE! :p I have other ideas for contests, but thought it would be nice to see what contest ideas you guys wanted to play considering I won't be the one playing them.

The only problem with a facebook contest is going to be I'm not sure how to run such a thing. I know Mike looked into one for a Notcigs Infinity Pro contest and it seems facebook had so many rules he ended up doing the contest on the VF. And it was a pretty simple contest. At some point when I can wrap my head around it, I will be doing a scavenger as that was my idea for my original santa hat contest. Maybe we will make the starting spot the hunt our facebook page!

Good point but is a contest for a contest really a contest at all? And if we hadn't kept mentioning a contest would you be having this contest?

All you need to know is right here:

How is a facebook contest similar to a popularity contest? It would be people giving likes to her phiniac facebook page... Once a person "likes" another it goes up on that persons page that they have recently "liked" whom ever they recently liked, this can be viewed by those that visit that persons page, thus act as free advertisement space, which is a good thing for any blossoming business.

Everyone that gave a "like" would then write their user name in a comment on her page...at the end of it she would add the names to a drawing and the name that pops out wins the contest. (completely random outcome)

I can't see how this could be considered tantamount to popularity contest? Those without a facebook page would be left out and that's the only foreseeable downside.

I think you didn't understand me . . . They are 2 Different issues that are equally disliked by many . . .

What I was saying is . . . I - like a number of people on ECF - do not favor (or Like participating in) any "Like" Contest because they seem to be more a "Popularity Contest", with friends voting for friends or people wanting to become a freind of the person - not soley on the creativity or subject matter/text of the post or entry . . . (You can even tell who is going to "WIN" some of these "like" Contest even before it really starts, because it is usually exact same people who keep winning ;) )

AND as for the "Facebook" Contest - there are just as many people who dislike them, because 1) they do not have a "Facebook" Account and will not get one - so they cannot enter the contest, 2) it truly infringes on those who would rather not want that kind of "Social" networking (AKA as you said - better known as advertising) on their "Facebook" pages, and 3) some people just don't care, but some of these Like Contest on "Facebook" have applications connected to them where they can access all your information if they wanted too and do as thy wish with the information - even contacting Your "Facebook" Friends Directly . . . (BTW: This happened to me and I had to delete all my family/friends from my account and removed everything that I kept there to share just with my Family & Freinds . . . AND I had the Highest Secuity settings they allowed.)

Matter of fact, have you seen what is in store for people with "Twiter" accounts and what Google is planning to do come March 1 . . . If not you should check it out . . . Personally I am planning on deleting all my informtion from Google and getting rid/Closing my email account before then . . .

A little too much philosophy for a Saturday afternoon!! But here are my answers...

Yes, I believe a contest for a contest is a contest (all be it a subjective one) as I will be picking a winner and then having another contest!

Most definitely yes I would be having a contest, I like contests and hope to have many more!

Finally, I did not find it a bad attempt at humor... I thought it was funny, but philosophy was one of my favorite classes in college!

Interesting, but as you point out many people hate facebook. I myself go back and forth, I'm not a huge facebook fan, but every now and again I get in touch with someone I have not heard from in a few decades and would not have if not for facebook so on those days I like it.

I have a feeling however (not sure, just a feeling) that the contest you laid out might be against facebook rules. It is basically offering a prize for people to like your facebook page and I doubt that is how facebook wants pages to get likes.

The rest of your thoughts however from a business stand point are very solid and valid... It would be wonderful if everyone liked our facebook page and commented on our wall.

And always looking for a cheap plug here it is without a contest... Please visit our facebook page, if you like us, then please click on the like button!!

No need to tell me, I found it! Luckily I don't do anything on Google that requires privacy, no gmail, or anythig of that nature, it is strictly a business tool for me and one I can not get rid of. All of my web design customers expect to find themselves ranked #1 on Google regardless of Google's policies!

More "Big Brother" . . . and I am not just being cynical here - or a worry wart - or concerned that they are also trying to become another "Facebook"/"Twitter" Social Network - This is very serious people, keeping all your personal information . . . Tailoring what it "garners" from your emails to link you to the "products" You WANT . . . WHAT ? ? ? ? Just think about it - Not Good AT ALL :(

1: I didn't fail to realize that some people prefer to avoid facebook, which is why I said it was the only foreseeable downside.

2: This is the era of social media, if you don't like it that's fine... but don't bash others ideas merely because you won't take part.

3 the way I suggested the contest be carried out would have bypassed any of the unfavorable aspects of contest run through facebook.

Last but not least... I have seen what they are planning to do.

The Navy and the Red Cross both said no since I lived in Italy from 1995-98 ...... as of 3 months ago, they are still saying no. I used to donate to the NICU since I'm O neg, and CMV neg ..... not anymore. :(

I'm pleased that you could find the humor in my dorky post but I worried that others may have seen it as rude.

I too have a love hate relationship with facebook for various reasons but I do keep one to keep in touch with a few out of state friends... Though I don't even have it in my real name lol

Good point about the contest, it may be against the rules but I have seen others running similar contest on ECF?

My apologies - but I wasn't bashing nor intended any form of disrepect to you or your idea - I was voicing "My Opinion" I did not mean anything what so ever personal or towards you and your idea . . . My comment was meant as my dislike for any Contest that was "Facebook" related . . . and BTW: I actually was replying to the quoted post by "moorea" http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hiniac-pyrex-tank-contest-16.html#post5153734 in reply to your post - NOT YOUR POST . . . I hope you finally understand . . .

I hear you, BUT this is nothing new at all! Google has been collecting this information for years, now they are just being a little less transparent about it, incorporating it into a new privacy policy and feeding it back to you for "your" use. If you have a Google account visit the Google dashboard, you might be surprised to see what info they have collected about you for years!

https://www.google.com/dashboard/?hl=en

Bottom line is... if you don't want to share something with EVERYONE don't put it on the World Wide Web! It never stops amazing me what some people put on-line for the world to see!

So is there a point when you are allowed to start donating again? Or is this a forever thing?
