I have absolutely zero experience with tanks so forgive me if this is a no brainer, but are boges a good choice of carto to use in a phiniac tank? If so what size carto length-wise? Also I've heard saddle valves are a decent way to punch your own cartos, would that be a good option with boges?

Thanks :):vapor:

I am currently vaping with a regular size phiniac tank with a punched boge carto. It works like a charm. You just have to make sure that you match the right heights of the cartos with size of phiniac tank that you have. You will have to punch the boge cartos, so having a saddle valve (or something equivalent to put a hole in the carto) is necessary.

I went with a regular size phiniac tank just so that I would have more options available to use with various cartos. If you get one bigger than the regular size tank, then you have to be extra careful on the height of the cartos that you buy to use in it.

could someone please explain to me what punching a carto means? i'm guessing your poking a hole in it somewhere but where and why? what's the purpose of this?
Hole punching is only for using the carto in a carto tank. Punching a hole in the side of the carto allows the juice in the tank to soak into the carto (also gets sort of sucked into the carto as you draw on it) creating an automatic refilling of the carto. The tanks, and cartos, come in different sizes. Generally, most tanks are either 3 ml or 5ml. DCT tanks (for dual coil cartos) are longer and often thinner - the cartos that go in them are longer too.

------
elgatoenelsombrero - Boge is a brand of carto and they make various versions/models and at various resistances. No two models perform the same. The different manufacturers and models are all different - just like all models of attys perform differently. Many say "this one is best or that one is best" but what they mean is the model they are referring to is "best" for them and their preferences. I have tried many and found the ones I like the best - for me and my tastes. I happen to like the Boge. I prefer the 801 style. While the carto internals of the Boge 510 may be the same as the 801 version, the airflow is different and I find the 801 version bring out more flavor in MY juices. Some people like 510 versions better. It is all subjective. You just have to try various models until you find the ones that YOU like the "best" with YOUR juices and devices.

While I use variable wattage devices (Darwins and Kicks) which automatically read the ohms (resistance) and make voltage and amps adjustments to compensate and keep the watts (basically temperature) the same - I still prefer standard resistance cartos and attys and do not enjoy anything LR (Low Resistance). I can take the same model carto in both standard and LR and I will prefer the standard one every time. Other people swear by LR gear and will not use anything else.

I do use the saddle valve to start my carto punch holes but then I finish the holes by hand with a hammer and a hand held punch (looks sort of like a nail). The size of the holes and how many holes makes a difference and you want to adjust the holes (size and number of holes) to the juices YOU vape. PG based juices are thinner in viscosity and need less hole space to effectively feed without flooding. VG has a much thicker viscosity and juices with higher VG content may need bigger and/or more holes to effectively feed. There is no catch-all solution and you sort of have to play with it until you find what works for you. One problem I found with the saddle valve is if you turn too far you can pierce the carto's internal tube and that destroys the carto (unrecoverable flooding). So, I use the saddle valve to barely pierce (or just dent) the carto body and then finish by hand. I have a hand held punch but you can use a sheet rock screw with a hammer - just go slow and easy until you learn the size hole(s) you want. I finish by hand because I want to see the hole and see how big the hole is getting so I do not make it too big.

You can buy cartos already punched but they are more expensive. There are many different carto punches on the market and you just have to search around thru venders to find some of them. There are also many youtube videos showing various ways to punch cartos and also reviewing many of the various carto punches currently available.

Hope this is helpful to someone. :toast:

I'll put in my variation of where I punch my holes and how I do it with a saddle valve.

1) If you're using cartos with no holes and want to put it in a tank, this has to be done.

2) First, I screw my carto onto my pv (which is a silver bullet) and put a mark on the carto that lines up with my button. This is purely for my personal preference because I like to press the button with my thumb and hold my SB on an angle. This places the hole at the very bottom of where my liquid will be if I don't have my tank topped up with juice.
3) I unscrew the carto and place it in the saddle valve and line up the punch part with where I want my hole. The best place, in terms of height, is about 2 millimetres above the bottom of the inside of your tank.
4) Punch it. My preference is to wait until I hear the pop and then do half more of a turn. Note that I do vape with 100% vg and need that bottom hole bigger as NebulaBrot mentioned already.

5) Place in tank, fill and vape happily :)

Look for pbusardo's tutorial on slotting cartos. He talks about punching, but his preference is to use a dremel and slot his cartos. He also describes where to place the holes and shows it to you in his video.
5) I then punch a second hole near the top of my carto to get more airflow in it. I just punch it until I hear the pop and don't make it any bigger.
