i'm not an english major. i'm pointing out phrases, especially used on this forum, that drive me nuts. there are tons of websites that have more of these phrases. they drive bloggers to business executives crazy. if i see a thread that contains these words i go somewhere else.(this is not meant to say that posters that say these things are not intelligent but have fallen into a bad habit)
1. "at the end of the day." what does that mean? nothing. it's like saying, "at the beginning of the night."
2. "Hands down." ex. what is your favorite e liquid, hands down. "what is your favorite e liquid" works just as well. (better i think.) i think "hands down" is a horse racing expression. i wish that's all it was.
3. (the worst) "having said that." "that being said," "that said" you just said it. two and three are the worst.
4. see #3. (try) "however." or bookmark a thesaurus.
5. "think outside the box." not used here much. way overused and stupid. maybe "creative" would be better.
6. "awesome" i'm guilty but i'm working on it. wonderful? excellent? i love it.
7. "to tell you the truth" so, if you don't use this, are the other posts lies?
if i see a post with "hands down" or "that being said,"i do not read the rest of the post. these are my quirks and not an indictment. people who say these thing are not ignorant. most are smart, but damn.
i should get out more and not let the small stuff get to me but when this is said over and over i want to scream.
great forum, great people. i used to say "you know" way to much and my stepbrother winced when i did.
So, at the end of the day i love to vape candy flavors. having said that. i like tobacco flavors too. but hands down, the best ever is Hype. But when i "think outside the box", pluid is "awesome" too but "to you the truth," my adv is Legend, but "at the end of the day" i love many flavors. ... what are you talking about?
all in good fun. i also hate all lowercase letters.
