Hello everyone, Pizza Dave here, delivering you a review of the Topside by Dovpo and Brian from TVC. This is highly regarded as the top squonker of the year by just about everyone who has used one. I am late to the game with this review, but here goes nothin’!

FEATURES
The Topside is a single battery, 5-90w squonk mod. It can be powered by 20700, 21700, or 18650 batteries (with adapter). From the factory it can be either a wattage mode device or run in bypass. TC features are available via a firmware (not tested by me). So those are the basics, but now for what makes this mod interesting, the squonk bottle. This device comes with a 10ml squonk bottle that is filled via the TOP SIDE. It has a removable cap which exposes kidney shaped fill holes that remind us all a top fill tank. It really is innovative and takes the hassle of refilling squonk bottles away. That is one of the biggest cons to most squonk mods. It is messy and an extra process, but not with this.

OPERATION
Brian over at TVC wanted to keep this one simple and simple is what it is. 5 clicks of the fire button will turn it on and off. Holding down the up/down buttons will lock the wattage. Hitting the fire button and the down button together will switch modes (wattage and bypass). That is about all there is to it. The wattage scrolls in .5-watt increments, scrolls at a decent speed, and it round robins. The display on this device is basic but shows all the details that you need to know in a very clear fashion.

SQUONKING
The Topside really is a game changer for squonk devices. Refilling this thing is just so simple and mess free. Not only does it work on this device, but I have a feeling it gave every other company that “a-ha” moment, and we are going to see many more like this in 2019. The bottle itself is proprietary. It can be removed by pulling out the bottom as it comes housed with a plastic and metal frame around it. For cleaning purposes, the housing can be taken apart via two screws.
One thing I did notice with this type of system is one of the biggest cons of the Topside. I saw others report the same, but essentially the device feels like it is squonking, but nothing goes into the rda. What I found is one bottle (of the 4 I have used) doesn’t seal properly with the top fill cap. If it doesn’t seal, squeezing the bottle causes air to escape here, and little to no liquid will go through the tube within the mod and make it up the to the rda. It is a simple fix, by getting a replacement bottle, which comes with new metal housing, but it is an issue that I hope their QC can do a better job of catching.

HOW IT VAPES
The Topside is a big device, and that is one of the first things you will notice in hand. However, the shape of it makes it strangely comfortable to hold. I had zero issues with the size personally, but I also have pretty big paws. There isn’t a lot to cover when it comes to how it vapes really. This comes with a simple chip that features wattage mode or bypass mode. That being said, it does what it is supposed to do. You hit the fire button, it ramps up quickly, provides solid wattage, and is no frills wattage vaping. This one really shines in the squonking department. Not only does it have the super convenient top fill method, but it also comes with a large 10ml bottle. The only thing I don’t like about the top fill is the cut out for the bottle is not at the very top of the bottle so the top 10% of the bottle or better is not seen and becomes a bit tricky to fill to the very top.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Dovpo Topside is hands down one of the most innovative squonkers ever produced. The top filling is very convenient, and it is a well-constructed device. The device is packed full of pros, including a nice display, simple operation, good clicky buttons, lots of color options, and the best squonk system thus far. I struggled to find cons with this device. One of them is going to be the size, as it is tall and heavy, but that’s pretty minor. The biggest con is definitely the fact that there are some squonk bottles may not seal properly and render this mod useless. Thankfully, Dovpo includes a spare bottle with the kit and the odds are in your favor that this bottle will work. I haven’t seen this reported a ton, so hopefully there aren’t many cases of this happening. If I never experienced this, I would have gushed a lot more about this. I still love this device. It really is as good as advertised and makes it one of the top squonking mods of 2018.
