...Does it save $ to mix your own in the long run or is it just a taste thing?...

I only DIY no-nic flavors and I only use flavors from The Perfumer's Apprentice. The quality & flavors are great and I'm working toward a Zero Nicotine regimen. I also like knowing what I'm vaping and that it is cost-effective. For Nicotine, I buy pre-mixed, and sometimes use these self-mixed PA flavors to top off cartomizers or mix with pre-mixed ones to nic-them-down or improve the flavor, but mostly vape them alone.

Thank you -- I've been trying to mix different juice flavors (some are awful, like chocolate-vanilla) to cut my nicotine from some of my early purchases. It sounds like I should start experimenting and using flavors -- I tried DIY Flavorshack but you say PA is better? What the heck!

Dang (old man profanity!), The V4L Sig generator is down....

DIY mixing can be Very cool. It can also be Frustrating as Hell! If you are just getting into it I would give you a few suggestions.

Keep DETAILED RECORDS. Your going to have some initial success and your going to have some failures. The worst thing is when you mix something and it Tastes Bad. You Add a drop or two of this. Tastes better. Add a drop of something else and it is too strong. Add some PG/VG to dilute it and it’s Perfect. But two weeks later you want to make more but can’t remember what you did to fix the original mix.

Make small 3ml batches until you have a good recipe. Don’t start of trying to make 30ml of something. Some flavors sound good on paper but just don’t taste good and are hard to fix. Better to waste 3ml than 30ml.

Let your mix sit for at least 24 hours, or longer before trying it or changing it. It takes time for flavors enhance e-Juice. Mixes taste different after a day or so. Usually stronger.

Choose Flavors in “Families”. By that I mean that most taste is not based on just one flavor. If you are going after a Fruit flavor say Cherry, It just doesn’t taste right sometimes. But put in a drop of Watermelon to the mix and it tastes good. Peace is a Great flavor to add to most Fruit mixes. Also Vanilla is great to add to Caramel or Coffee flavors.

Buy Sweetener when you buy your flavor. Many DIY flavors have no sweetener added to them. To make a mix with strong flavor, it is going to get bitter before it takes on a strong taste. Many people use “Cotton Candy” (ethyl maltol) as a safe sweetener. Marshmallow is also a good flavor to take the edge off many mixes.

DIY is fun what with all the bottles, recipes and a P-Touch labeler. Kinda brings out the Mad Scientist in a person. Let us know how it turns out and be sure to post your Recipes when you develop the Perfect blend.

Some great tips there ZoiDman! From the live and learn files, I might throw in mix your 3 ml samples in pg/vg ONLY! If you hit on something you think you might want to vape it's easy enough to add nic and adjust from there. Nic is waaaay too precious imo to flush, whereas I don't feel near as bad flushing disgustingly perfumey skunk flavored pg lol! I'm getting pretty good at that ;)

edit: whoa! I just noticed how old this thread is :p

I just ordered a bottle of pizza flavoring along with about 15 other flavors, as my flavor supply was getting low. I think this will be the very next thing I mix...

When you try it, Let Us Know what you think.

Remember: A Little Flavoring goes a Long Way.

Here's one more that I learned since I posted these Tips.

Try DownMixing your Nicotine Base down to About 15 or 20% Higher than the mg you want to Vape at.

For me, I vape at 18mg. So when I buy 48mg Nicotine Base, I DownMix it to 22mg.

Now I have 22mg Unflavored e-Liquid. When I go to do a DIY, I just Add Flavoring and Sweetener to the 22mg DownMix and I end up with Flavored DIY around 18mg.

Beats the heck out of Meassuring Everything out Everytime you make something.
